You could have the best wingers or creative midfielders in the league, but when you are counting on Britt to finish off the move you are fighting a losing battle.
Any decent creative player relies on the forward in front of him finding space, making runs, challenging for balls that sometimes are less than perfect, Britt does none of this.
He is so erratic as well, occasionally he can make a decent, intelligent run, but on the majority of the time, who knows what he going to do?
You can lay the ball on a plate, he most likely will miss. You can thread a ball through, he will fail to control it, make the wrong choice or fail to test the keeper. He is woeful one on one. his link up play is pathetic and his assists are poor, but watching him play you would expect nothing less.
I think Britt comes under that increasingly frequent modern day phenomena, the financially very comfortable, lazy footballer. He has nothing to prove, he is rich. When was the last game it looked like he was chomping at the bit? Technically he is poor, he is lightweight and not particularly fast, you add that to lack of effort and a poor footballer is the net result.
If he’d cost a million or so and was on an average salary he would have been out the door long ago. We paid too much, we pay him too much and I cannot imagine any team taking on his salary. We are stuck with an absolute dud.
I’d be gutted if I was a midfielder and looked up to see that fraud in front of me, knowing that he is making me look poor, knowing that I am reliant on him to get the goals for my team and knowing that despite the lack of interest, ability or fight he shows, he is being financially rewarded more and to top it off he is my captain.
The other issues in the squad do need addressing but our striker issues are far, far greater and have been for years.
