Boxing Day Attendance

29,000 sold but only single tickets left doesn’t seem to add up
They have just released more in the East stand so the barriers have moved in East and South. I presume to keep the Wigan fans warm by cosying up to them. Anyway about 300 left now and I think they may have now maxed out on the barrier moves.

325 available for purchase just then, though some will be in the basket, so it's likely more.

Initial allocation of 1,279 for Wigan, with more probably held in reserve in the unlikely event they sell out.

Then segregation.

That's probably 31,000+

Our sold out crowd for Tottenham was 31,135.

Seems about right to me if our maximum capacity is actually only around 32k at the moment as Rob says.

Yes, they've released rows 4 seats wide in blocks 44 and 45.
It's madness !

I`l wager Wigan wont bring more than 300.
We should take them for a pint in the Fan Zone and the Navi.

I'll imagine our boys are going to bang up for this.
Wigan aren't the greatest side and 30k+ at The Riverside they'll wanna get the fans on their feet.
They'll be stinging after Burnley I feel like we're gonna get a show
3-0 Boro, Chuba grabbing 2 and Hayden Hackney hitting a thunderbolt in front of 30k fellow Teessiders!

Given they're only averaging 11,000 at home, and it's on a day without public transport, I don't think it's too far off what you'd expect.

They're not a particularly well supported club, in an area riddled with more successful football clubs that will leach off supporters.

We have enough glory supporters of the big North West clubs on Teesside and we're not only a few miles away and part of the same urban area.

If Wigan bring 800 that's 300 more than I would have guessed so well done to their supporters. But will leave nearly 500 unsold tickets.

Our capacity is about 32,500, but there the equivalent of 3 empty blocks of segegration so the Spurs crowd last sseason was our effective ticket sales capacity - 31,151.

There are around 140 unsold home tickets on the website, plus a few in online baskets unpaid for, plus corporates and family sections - maybe around 400 in total.

My guess is around 30,250 sold so far with 29,425 home fans, which we probably never achieved in the last season in the Premier league, because the big sides brought 2,800 away fans.

Based on the bits of the game I saw last night - Wigan looked better than a bottom 3 team and deserved a draw. They drew at Millwall the game before that. I expect a close and tough game on Boxing Day.

Good to see over 500 more season tickets sold recently , which probably takes us over 21,000 Season ticket holders. It gives the club at least another £100k to invest.

Wigan Rugby League get bigger crowds and must be big competition for Wigan Athletic. Plus Orrel? Rugby Union.

Coal mining areas seemed to be keener on Rugby in Yorkshire, Cumbria and Lancashire.

Its gonna be one hell of an atmosphere.
It will be good for Michael Carrick and some of the new staff, to understand what a full Riverside feels like.
As they walk down the tunnel into the noisy cauldron - from a dreadful start to the season to a new dawn.

ps: Bring on Brighton.🏆
