Boris to tell over 50s to lockdown..

Boromike, you can't police over 50's shielding, and I am not even sure if it is legal. Firstly if a policeman asks you your age, you are under no obligation to tell him so that is a dead end. Secondly, gatherings in homes are impossible to police, the police have no right of entry into your home.

This really ins't the same as littering or shoplifting.

Only in terms of policing. We (the vast majority) don't break the law even though it is very simple to do for a lot of offences and almost impossible to be caught. We still don't do it. Why would this be any different? The majority of over-50s if told to stay inside will do so. A small minority won't and they won't be caught or punished. The goal will be achieved though because the majority will comply.

I think you may find that a lot of people just over 50 will ignore the instruction. It may still be a minority, but I would think it will be a fairly large minority. I believe this to be the case as at 50 I don't think you are at much more risk than a 30 year old, assuming you are fit and healthy, of course.

That would be worse for the economy. Fewer people paying for more retired people's pensions. The generation that has had everything don't need to be given the bonus of retiring early as well.

How do you police littering or shoplifting? You have a law that says it is wrong to do it and 99% of the people comply. Some people are unpoliceable. The rest will do as they are told and the small minority of rule breakers aren't enough to have a big enough effect on spreading the virus. It will be 1% worse, if they don't have the rules it could be 100% worse.

I would argue that neither is policed so your crass argument goes out of the window. And if you think the rule breakers in this virus are a small minority, then you need to open your eyes.

There are a lot of people out there making the mistaking of confusing 'empathy for others' and 'accepting removal of rights'.

This isn't some deep state conspiracy to rip us all off, yes there may be some attempt by government to abuse their role, but the key right now, as most victims, families, doctors, scientists and morticians will tell you is to reduce fatalities.

That is my point. They aren't policed but the vast majority don't litter and steal because they know it is wrong.

The rule breakers are still a minority. They are just visible because the people sticking to the rules are at home.

So after all the speculation the government haven't announced a lock down for the over 50s.

It is surely difficult to speculate on the government's next step when it would appear that the government aren't sure of what they are going to do next

Dont believe what the papers say would be advisable.

Or that if you care about other people and want to follow the guidelines then you're hiding under a blanket in your loft.

Problem is, I believe this government often float ideas around in the media to gauge the reaction. Sometimes they go with it, sometimes they don’t.

Isn't it? Oh I didn't realise the virus had stop infecting people. That was nice of it.

I guess the negotiations with it worked?
If you think all these measures are purely about the virus more fool you. They are of course about the virus amongst other things, cashless society, personal i.d's (covid-pass).

I'll see you in the queue for the vaccine. 😉

Fool is a good word. It's weird how we both agree that this government is turning the country into a dictatorship. Yet you can't seem to comprehend that there is a deadly virus out there. A little hint for you, maybe look at what's happening in the rest of the world? Maybe, just educate yourself on that?

I was out and about at Teesside Park during the weekend, during which I saw some wannabe big man strutting about, maskless, like a peacock.

In reality, he probably just has a pea **** and has to compensate in ways such as this.

The problem is that boomers are typically selfish, ignorant and just won't have being told what to do.

They will flout the lockdown, whether it is of benefit to public health or not.
