Bolasie.

Because it’s likely going to be one of the last contracts he ever earns. It’s easy to say football players have made loads of cash but most went born into money management skills and most end up bankrupt after a few years as your income dries up but you have to survive on it for the next 50 odd years, will have expensive cats, house, family, staff etc

Yea an enviable position but doesn’t mean you don’t want to secure the best for you and your family’s future

He is married with 3 children and will want to do the best for them as he possibly can, regardless of what he has already put away as even if he goes into coaching or management, the salary will be drops of water in the ocean compared to playing
I can understand that

You can say that about anyone thinking of retirement that there money will dry up, you're talking in general about footballers not always been rich & big families etc, he'll have had the right people who will I vest his money wisely, or should have, when he does eventually retire, like any person, he will have to cut his cloth to suit his lifestyle

My point is, how long will he wait, he's earned a fortune in his playing career, far more than I will ever see & far more than I will retire on after 35 years at my works

If he can hang about for the bigger offer, can't be that bad for him & let's be honest here, he'll be on good money at the Boro on say a 2 year contractc

Mine was a response to Fragrance Guy and to the idea of 'a last big payout'. Surely, like all of us, he'll have investments and enough in the bank for rainy days. This talk about last big contracts is ridiculous.

I agree with your posts. If he can't stomach 15 grand per week then I don't know what to say.
Exactly, that was the whole point of my post, these last big pay deals done mean anything to me when he has offer of £8-15 a week or wait, upon wait, that someone will offer him £20k for a year longer

I think he has his head screwed on with a wife and kids, and said it was a selfish move to go to Sporting on loan before. He'll likely stay in this country, but might be waiting for a bottom half PL club to punt on him for a year.

Agreed. Christ, he was on prem wages with Palace, huge contract with Everton, then Villa. He should be able to live in luxury on the interest!

Yes but anyone retiring will be doing so at 65-70 and hoping to maintain a lifestsyle to which they have become accustomed and not struggling for money I presume?

He will be retiring at 34-35 and fighting against the statistic of 40% of footballer doing broke post retirement, and maintaining that lifestyle for decades longer than someone retiring at retirement age. Not everyone has those right people, some get outright defrauded and some investments go bad leaving them millions down.

But people retiring at 65-70 won't have earned 80 grand per week! If he, his agents, managers, advisors etc can't put aside some of that for early retirement then I honestly don't have sympathy for him. They earn the sort of money in a week than most people earn in a year.

People who have worked all their lives can lose their entire pot due to ban investments, defrauding etc, not just footballers, could happen to you & me tomorrow

I think, well I would hope, he'll have enough money invested to last him decades with the people in place the top earner footballers have these days

My initial point is how long does he just kick the ball against a wall waiting for some to offer him a few grand more a, week

It was just after reading of him waiting I asked the question, into to fussed if he returns or not

He doesn’t have to retire at 34 , he can start a new career and earn money if he needs to .
I don’t feel sorry for him , he should be minted .
And , I agree with you Erimus , I’m not fussed on him returning , I would rather we went for
Robert Muric
Luka Menalo
Dario Spikic
Charlie Kirk
Siriki Dembele
Okenabirhie
Hedges
Dion Charles
Mateo Cassierra
Cephas Malele
Morgan Rogers loan

Exactly he’s earned in a year what it would take most people the best part of 2 lifetimes to earn.

Maybe he wants to sign for a club in champions league or challenging for honours and that is what he is waiting for. I'm not saying I think he is good enough for a champions league club, but this is probably his last realistic(ish) chance of doing so.
