Better Call Saul ...

So BCS was good and the last season was excellent BUT it doesn't match up to BB which in my opinion was the best series ever made.
Let's be honest the best bits in BCS were when the BB characters came into it, Mike, Gus, Salamanca's etc.
There were periods in the earlier seasons of BCS where I was bored and really just kept going to find out how it all ties together with BB. The stuff about Mesa Verde just dragged on and on and didn't seem like it was going anywhere. Thankfully in the last season the writers picked up their game again and it really was compulsive viewing right till the end👍

Fantastic series and a fine ending to the whole BB and BCS saga.

Not much between them, but I'd say BCS just edges it over BB, just. Both superb.

As soon as it finished I went straight back to BB and started watching that again.

** Spoiler **

When Walt said to Saul, when discussing the time machine, summed him up for me. He's been the same all his life.

Very emotional when, although he was offered 7 years, he gave that up to save Kim getting civil suits against her. And then the last cigarette together, sharing it as they always did.

Cant wait to start it all over again and carry onto BB.

I rewatched season 5 of Breaking Bad past two weeks as I refuse to accept that that is it, now. I am gutted, for as long as it seemed to be waiting for season 6 with the Covid delays/Bob Odenkirk's heart attack .... that absolutely flew by, didn't it??

Such a beautiful ending .. when they were chanting his name on the bus

Agree with Lefty that BCS just edges BB

Never thought I would be saying that when I watched the first two/three seasons of BCS ... but it ramped up in quality so much from that point. Kinda like Breaking Bad did after it's 3rd too

As people know, BB almost got canceled after two seasons

Thank God AMC or whoever is responsible did not do that ...

*spoiler alert - Was class to see Betsy Brandt back as Marie Schrader, though it was emotional and upsetting same time. Didn't think we would see her, also the guy who played Ramey at the DEA in BB

that's one view, personally I think the characters were much deeper in BCS. Some of the newcharacters were the best ones Kim, Lalo, Nacho, Howard and of course Chuck

Yeah Rhea Seehorn defo deserves an Emmy or two after that

Michael McKean too as Chuck, superb actor, though don't tend to see him in much other stuff

People mostly remember him as that guy from Spinal Tap haha

I commented on Tuesday just after i watched it.

So I’ve had two days to reflect but it was a stunning bit of television wasn’t it ?

You knew the game was up at the end of the previous episode.

The nod to the vacuum man when he was in the bin.

Hanks widow.

The courtroom scene.
The scene on the bus

BETTER…..CALL….SAUL….

And then the bit with Kim and the cigarette at the end. Don’t mind telling you I cried

In a post Better Call Saul world I hope she carries on as his lawyer and manages to reduce his sentence and then ditches that dull “yes yes yes” bloke in Florida.

Absolutely fecking brilliant TV.

Great post

Same here, almost. mate. The scene at the end with the cigarette brought a tear to my eye, just like it did when BB ended and the song 'Baby Blue' by Bad Finger started playing as Walter bled out and you could hear the cops arriving and know Jesse escaped ... the soundtrack to that whole series was outstanding but that song at the end in their finale, it moved me so much ... not sure who's job it was but they got it spot on all the time. Helped me discover a few new artists too I'd never heard of!

The feeling of two superb shows ending for good... I am going to miss it so much (n)

Where do you start when it's all over in the BCS/BB world??? The last season of BCS flew by, considering how long we'd waited for it and all the delays, etc.

Ozark drew me in, but the last season just totally ruined it, sadly. Got to be something worth giving a go up and coming or out right now?! Will take recommendations...

I am having a browse myself lately and can't find anything script-wise that is tickling my fancy at the minute. :ROFLMAO:

I watched both, although admittedly I binged BB in full a Few years ago across a few months. Then started BCs

But I was far more emotionally invested in the characters from Saul than Breaking Bad. Can’t help thinking that deep down BCS was just a love story between Kim and Jimmy.

In any case. Bloody brilliant.

Breaking Bad was excellent but I think BCS stepped up a level. Fantastic writing and storylines, and a great, satisfying ending - often the problem with good TV shows when they don’t end well or get strung out too long, not a hint of that here.

Yeah, After watching the first couple of episodes of BCS years ago, I had no idea how invested we all would become in individual's own stories compared to the way it happened in BB... learning the way they become who they were ... Mike's story was emotional. Truthfully, I didn't think BCS at the time, however, was going to last six seasons!

I was surprised how upset I felt on how it all ended for Howard, too ... the poor b*stard ... how he got sucked into the thing with Chuck dying, blaming himself, to being driven up the wall by Jimmy and Kim to try and get the Sandpiper settlement

Lalo ruthlessly killed him for being in the way and potential witness at the wrong time, though if it weren't for Jimmy and Kim's tricks that day .. he would never have turned up. How that went totally t1ts up for them, indeed. Comeuppance doesn't describe it!

The opening scene in the episode afterward showing his staged suicide too, it was upsetting. When Kim showed his wife her deposition, it was outstanding, a pin drop moment. When she starts to cry on the bus back to the airport afterward, bloody hell. I really struggle to watch that because it was so real.

But 100%, yes. Fans were far more emotionally invested in this show overall than BB for sure.

The job all the writers managed to on this script and pull it off so convincingly on screen, it's got to sweep a load of Emmies now. I hope it does.

Can I just add, since I don’t think it has been mentioned, the added touch of the post BB stuff in BCS being in black and white. Their world in their younger days was full of the promise of the future and colourful and yet to be written. Once they had made choices and taken certain paths, well the future was determined and bleak and b&w emphasised that, though I hadn’t really appreciated that in those first pre title sequence intro’s in the earlier episodes. So well done. The entire BB and BCS saga has a feel that it was planned in the finest detail before anything went to screen, which is remarkable if it was and even more so if it wasn’t.
