Best ever away fans at the Riverside?

I was really impressed with Man United in 2017, though I expected them to be plastics.

Man United and Liverpool always have very loud away support but its probably easy when you're winning a lot and scoring goals. Both are also very quiet when their teams go behind though as we've seen here over the years.

Worth saying, this year has not been particularly vintage for away fans at The Riverside. Missed the big followings from forest, Leeds, derby, Sheffield Wednesday etc…
Still got two big ones to come + 2 others this season, Burnely who apparently ( according to someone on here) have sold all their tickets for our fixture and Coventry who will sell all their tickets for the last regular match this season. Norwich might have bought 2000 if it wasn't moved to a. Friday night, and Hull who might bring 200 or 2000 for a midweek match.

I'm not sure you can say the away support is particularly good when they only brought 1600. Fair play to them their support was decent enough but nowhere near the best we've had at the riverside.

Its funny how you get used to very poor away support when 1600 seems a good number. We took almost 4 times that to deepdale last season.

I think the poor away turn outs is a sign that they don’t fancy the long trip north just to see their team get turned over.

Thought they were brilliant today, and they were definitely the best this season, but I don't think they're the best we've had whilst I've been going.

At the same time, that was then when they were geting battered, I imagine they'd have turned it up a notch if they were winning.
Thought Blackpools fans were good this season. The loudest were Man U’s when they won the League in 1996.

Arsenal 1999 never shut up all game, but to be honest we were very quiet that day, losing 6-1, to top my day off I was wheel clamped when returning to my car, me and several other cars, from a dodgy company who put no parking stickers up whilst we were at the match.

Peterborough league cup QF 1992 came in decent numbers and made some noise.

Seem to remember a Portsmouth cup game at Ayresome with a decent away turn out for such a long journey.

Bradford City play off semi final.

Liverpool for the league cup semi 2nd leg 1998 might just be one of the biggest away turn outs. One of the best Riverside atmospheres also that night.

Thread was about the Riverside but going back to Ayresome Barnsley in the 1981 FA Cup 5th round brought a very vocal following. Also didn’t Celtic play there in a friendly and brought thousands?

Seem to remember Celtic filling the east end, Clive road corner and the bob end!
Can't remember any other club doing that, albeit those areas had a reduced capacity by that time. Must have been at least 8k.
For a friendly!
Barnsley did bring a huge number, again 8k or more.
Sunderland fans now claim to have had half the crowd at AP for their games, but that is of course pure fantasy.

I don't think numbers indicate " the best ever" away support , obviously if there are many thousands it can be impressive but if Preston stand out for being noisy and having something special about them then why not they can be put into the category " best ever'.
