BBC Tees have wound up Chuba Akpom

Hes a 29 goal a season striker. We havent had one of those in decades ?
For arguments sake let's say his agent is after an extra 20k per week for his client then over a 4 year contract that's roughly 4 million.

Good luck with finding a striker that scores 29 goals for that kind of fee and then paying them big wages on top of it.

Everyone saying sell for 10m I just don't get it,chuba was outstanding for us last season and getting a striker of that calibre to come and sign for us is a huge ask.

I dont know about not being able to afford the kind of contract chuba is looking for,we can't afford to let the lad go for me.

As for Mark Dreary he is about as likeable as a room full of politicians having a party during Covid and is the main reason why I dont like listening to BBC tees anymore as I don't value his opinions.

There’s no way Mark Drury has made this up and aired it, he’s been briefed by the football club. This is Boro’s stance, Chuba denies it.

Clearly there’s a disparity between the two or he’d have signed a new deal. If it’s way over what we’re willing to pay, it won’t get resolved.

So question is do we keep him and hope for the best or cash in now?
What if the club are concerned about his knee injury and waiting for him to be fit before offering to meet his contract request…if he is injured with a knee who’d offer a long term contract in that situation ?
I wouldn’t. I’d wait for him to get fit….

A concern is akpom is following fan based accounts that post any old gush that comes on Twitter. Should be blocking out that type of noise

Not really social media savvy but does Chuba run his twitter or does somebody do it for him ( agent). That said, Giles has suggested what Tees put out may not be thet accurate.

I mean bbc tees isn’t gush that particular post is posting stuff that has been said. From what I know boropolis posts rumours sourced from the internet etc.

All sorts of wild speculation here. I'm not at all convinced that if the club wanted to drip feed information (false or not) that they'd do it throught Drury to spout out on a podcast. Much more likely the Gazette or Echo. I think he's far more likely to have just come out with some unfounded rumours, after all he's got history (that's not to say they may not be miles apart on contracts)

Regarding the contract I kind of feel like it's got to be very soon or never. There'll be a late cascade of transfers coming up towards the end of the window and teams always end up desperate to bring in strikers.

It amazes me that some people think we should cash in on Chuba for £10 million. Who are we going to attract for £10 million who could get us almost 30 goals in a season? With our track record of buying strikers I think I'd rather keep him this season and risk him leaving on a free. His goals are invaluable if we are to achieve anything this season.
Given Chubas record and the fact that this was one good season aka, Michael Chopra, Daryll Murphy esk what dictates it happening again, I wish Chuba well and if he stays I hope he replicates but if he does stay and doesnt sign we have a Ben breaton situations with a half hearted effort/season and walks for free, personally if he doesnt want to be here and the club can get money for him let him go, the money may fund loan deals for Diallo should Man U let him leave Archer should Villa decide to let him go or one or two other signings to make us 3/4 players better off rather than one who we hope has the same season as last.

My worry is how has Chuba's situation affected the squad? We had a really tight group last season, but if the club are treating a really popular player in a certain way, i.e. him training alone, then this can only have a negative impact on the rest of the players. It needs sorting asap!

Listened to the podcast last night before I saw Giles’ tweet.

For both of them to come out now against what’s been said by Drury, it does make you wonder.

Why do we always seem to have a bit of drama before the season starts, last year it was Tav and now this.

This ‘hard stance’ that the club likes to portray has a habit of seeming to back fire against us.

For me the club has been unprofessional for some time. The something off about the culture at the club. When Pulis and Warnock call for wholesale changes the alarm bells were ringing

I thought we had turned the corner out wilder behind us erc but we get to another summer window and it seems we’re at loggerheads again

Also brings into light what actually happened last summer.

Even at the carrick press conference there we snide remarks about wilder, which again you can file under unprofessional

I get the impression that Drury likes the sound of his own voice, he's heard some information through well connected channels and leaked it.

The club has a history of this….remember the Downing fiasco….we rarely part ways on good terms…..look at how Warnock was treated and going back further Schwarzer.

Fully expect the club is wanting fans to believe he wanted too much and that’s why we had to sell him

Such a shame, from a huge position of strength with the best manager we will have at this level, and we don’t want to capitalise on it
