BBC Tees have wound up Chuba Akpom

That account is alluding that he verbally agreed a deal, then Luton offered more and he reneged on his verbal agreement. No idea if that is true or not, but either way I he's made a poor personal decision in goin to Luton that will showcase the worst part of his game.

Akpom, clearly no agreement reached yet. If Akpom wasn't wanting to resign with us, then I doubt he'd get into this spat. The question is, are the club close to an agreement or are they actively trying to cash in on him?
It was more what Wolves wanted from the deal than Giles. By all accounts Giles had agreed terms with Boro but the up-front fee that Wolves wanted had the added sell-on fees and a by-back clause that we disagreed with.

I have an outstanding question I sent into the Price of Football podcast to see if such a thing as a rolling balance for FFP exists to see what headroom the club has this year for signings etc. Not heard it broadcast yet.

I asked as I was extremely alarmed when a recent update from the club stated revenue was not even covering operating costs which is a very bad place to be.

For Drury to state what he said about both Giles and Akpom that has to be the club trying to communicate that we only have so much funding available and not breach FFP & the Giles funds are still needed for alternative recruitment not to be added to the Akpom contract

Don't blame us they want too much, we did our best. Its not us, its them... Tory tactics by our chairman, maybe.

Cue gazette articles, Hayden Coulson is like a new signing he can save us money. We've already had... Carrick thinks our new signing who isn't a striker can definitely be a striker and is definitely good at shooting even though he isn't.

But thats just me being cynical.

Given the past 15 yrs you have every right to be cynical, something isn’t adding up for sure. If you are right, I can see Carrick waving ta ta eventually if he isn’t being supported as he was led to believe he would be.

100% agree with this.

The problem from the clubs point of view is if Akpom for whatever reason doesn't perform this season, gets injured, loses his confidence, etc...

It's Akpom's best and possibly last chance of a big contract, but it could be the clubs best and possibly last chance of a big fee for him too.
a big contract? we're probably paying him a decent wedge now.. in comparison to what he might get elsewhere. comparable. I think Chuba would want to stay here tbh, young family, breaking records, he's onto a winner. New contract and an uplift with promotion. would not be unreasonable to ask for and would probably blow anyone sniffing around out of the water.
my gut feeling is that it is a purely money orientated decision and the club wants to cash in asap.. otherwise our transfer business may well be done and dusted..

I’d like to have forss at the first striker at the moment

You might be right but it makes no sense to come out with those lines now (or leak them to Drury etc).

You do it after Akpom has left surely?

If contract negotiations are ongoing it sours the relationship and doesn't help the club at all.

If negotiations have broken down, as someone else has said, it makes our negotiating position that little bit weaker with buying clubs (inference being there's an unhappy player there).

Someone might have moaned off the record to Drury, but I don't believe it's intentional from the club.

Given his track record of talking absolute nonsense I think it is just as simple as he's got a big mouth and a bigger ego.

Negotiations always go like this:
Players agent high balls the club, the club low balls the player. If the club values the player, doesn't want to loose them at current market value, or a free if running down their current contract, they negotiate upwards to a level they feel they've got the best deal for the club. If they are happy to let the player go, they stick to their guns and the player accepts it or moves on. If the player is happy where they are, fairly happy with the original offer, they will negotiate down to a level the agent feels they've got the best deal possible.
In this situation MC has said since the turn of the year that negotiations had started and they were relaxed, Akpom has said he happy at the club. I think Akpom was in the stronger position and thus his agent will have really been pushing hard to get the best deal possible, as time passes and no real bids coming in, the club will think it's position has strengthened.
Drury probably correct in what he is saying, but didn't really give it any context, Akpom's reaction is defensive he knows that negotiations are still ongoing, he hasn't rejected any contract, just negotiating still.
My feelings are Akpom will sign a new 3 yr deal, with a release clause that can be activated if we don't go up in season 1.

Was it him who sold them? The only bit we saw Pulis do was manage the team
I have a friend who's a scout. He was scouting Spain and Portugal under Karanka and Monk. When Pulis came in they told him they only wanted players over 6 '2", and then shortly after told him they didn't need him any more. He's now scouting at Celtic, and identified Jota, who's since gone to Saudi, but told me last week he has been offered a role with Leeds. He's a Sheff Utd fan, so doesn't think he'll take it :ROFLMAO:

I thought this but it doesn't solve the situation . Any transfer fee taken by Boro in 12months time is money that isn't going to go on his new contract at that club. So if prem club A have to pay 12m then lets say they only prepared to offer 40k a week on top. But if it's a free then they can add say 6m of the 12m they are not using to buy, as a sweetner on top of the 40k. And if you get 2 or 3 fighting , it's shown that they are all prepared to pay silly money as a weekly wage. Akpom wants to be on a free next May, that's the goal for him his agent his team. How do you achieve that. You make the talks over any new contract now, too difficult and too long to do before the window closes? so he can't be sold. How is that done, by agents knowingly suggesting silly money then delaying all possible meetings about trying to compromise through it. They only have a month more to delay then they have achieved their aim. I believe just as Brereton Diaz did it, he then could speak to new clubs on Jan 1st about agreements in principle , as a free agent.

The source of the Akpom contract impasse is from within the Club, possibly an attempt to bring the situation to a head and also should negotiations fail it casts Akpom as the villain of piece.

Giles hadn't agreed terms but was in negotiations with the club when Luton made him an offer that he gave Middlesbrough the chance to match but we couldn't or wouldn't.

Warnock was asked to come and collect his stuff in the morning but arrived later than planned at a time when Wilder was been shown around and meeting the non-playing staff. The managers office had been emptied to allow Wilder to start putting his stuff into it and Warnock was given his stuff in reception.

Downing had a clause in his contract that meant if he featured in 30 games in the 18/19 season he would get an extra year on £37k a week, the club didn't want to trigger that cause so he was left out of a series of games and then agreed that the extension would be written out his contract and he'd be offered a new 2 year deal on about half that amount. Downing then turned up to a meeting at the end of the season and was told by Gibson that he wasn't getting any contract and he was free to leave the club, Woodgate who wasn't aware of Gibson's volte face later tried to get Downing a one year deal and a place on the coaching staff but Gibson wouldn't budge.

Goals sored and goal involvements from who we have will be decent..

Forss - 10
Crooks - 10
McGree - 6
Rogers - 6

Crooks with more goal involvements than Giles (Barlaser has the capability to match his assists), Rogers giving off Tavernier vibes but will play further forwards so would expect a better goal return.

Jones - assist king when he’s right
Gilbert - wouldnt be surprised to see him bring in 5 goals (Muniz in the Fulham promotion season)
Silvera - 1 in 3 his whole career
Coburn - 1 in 3 his whole career

the more I look at the squad I think we've built with a view to move Akpom on.. a solid base and see where we get in January to push with loan signings.
hopefully we keep hold. two very cute signings and five loan players in and we could be looking at smash the league teritory.

as it stands I think we are solid top six contenders.

Good post, but Chuba Akpom is no villain, no matter what twaddle the club peddle.

After that recent report of Gibson being caught up in that development scandal and basically being a c*** then it's no surprise that he falls out with people. The shambolic way the club has been run and the way they treat fans, and seemingly players, then maybe that points to where the blame lies.
