Balogun

I think Balogun likes it into feet and either hold up and dribble or run at people. Connelly likes to work on the shoulder for the ball in behind. Balogun I believe has better link up play, certainly from what I've seen. Balogun style-wise is more Bergkamp, while Connelly is more Owen.........not saying either player is that quality by the way
Like Fletcher was Rashford.... Well actually he is now😂

I think Balogun is competition for Sporar and Connolly is competition for Watmore. Balogun seems to have similar skills to Sporar while Connolly and Watmore seem quite similar. Unless Hernandez is going to be reinvented as a left wing-back or left-sided attacking midfielder I can see him going back to Norwich.
As far as I can tell, Wilder is trying to get two players in competition for each outfield place or to at least have a decent back-up for each place.

Dijksteel - Peltier
Fry - Bamba
McNair - ?
Jones - ?
Crooks - Payero
Howson - ?
Tav - Lea Siliki/Boyd Munce
Bola - Taylor
Watmore - Connolly
Sporar - Balogun

That does leave Uche, Coburn, and Hernandez quite a way down the pecking order though with Bola out for a long period we're struggling for cover at left wing-back.

Lumley/Daniels

Dijksteel/Peltier
Fry/Bamba
McNair/Wood

Jones/Hernandez
Crooks/Payero
Howson/Boyd Munce
Tavernier/Lea Siliki
Taylor/Bola

Sporar/Connolly
Watmore/Balogun

I could see a left footed defender coming in, Lea Siliki needs to up his game and Bola’s injury is a concern..

I still think we need a CM. He clearly don't fancy JLS or Payero to fill the Crooks/Tav and Howson role.

We can't keep moving Paddy in to CM and Sol into CB whenever one of those 3 goes down or tiers.

Even if he was willing to come down to the Championship, which I'm not sure his ego would allow now, Ragnick has said that he won't let him leave till the summer.

He'd be a brilliant signing for any team down here.
Will Ragnick still be manager after we whoop the 6 nil at their gaff?

With the speed of the Championship nowadays I don’t think Watmore can play a full game due to his past knee problems. Has he ever for us? Probably a 60 / 70 minute player now, hence the need to bring on similar quality for the last 20 / 30 minutes.

yes, I think the same way. Remember most games last about 100 minutes, these days, so a rotation of the front 4 getting starts (say 70 minutes) or off the bench (30 mins) is clearly a good plan. Still think Sporar is our number one, and Watmore seems to have fullest effect off the bench against tired defenders, but I’m sure Wilder will pick those training the best, fittest and most appropriate for the opposition. If Balogun comes in, I’d expect Hernandez to be the fifth option if any of our front 4 pick up an injury or suspension. He’s also adept at covering other roles. No place for Big Uche, I’m afraid, but it’s exciting that we can play “the Boro way” for a full game. Opponents will struggle to cope.

games are 90 minutes of play though - the time players are physically active. The other 10 are stood around wiating for someone to get treatment, hardly taxing

Sorry I think I misunderstood your point - scrap this

So Balogun is the first name on the team sheet, because Arsenal pay him a lot of money? That's a recipe for success.

Fantastic potential, Arsenal rave about him, could be unbelievably good for us, a chance worth taking.
Fantastic under the new regime we can attract these talents, under Pulis and Warnock, no chance.
Great strides forward under Wilder, good times to be a Boro fan.
Well I think so anyways, hope others feel the same?
