Never really had any interest before, but my son, who called round, was showing me the 2 two Boro lads who have the shirt museum collection on instagram, awesome collection from 2 dedicated Boro collectors

Browsed through other site on there, some good posts

Yes, my son and his partner left UK in Jan for an adventure,
They are using Instagram to keep us all updated - love it but that is all I look at.

Ditched facebook years ago

great app. only social media app i really like now. still have a fb account i very rarely use. attempting to wean myself off twitter but i do like it for the boro stuff, updates etc.

I like Instagram, I’m pretty prolific on there at the moment because I had so many photos from my time in Russia that I’m still posting them now just to clear them off my phone. I’ve almost finished but I mix in quite a few from previous travels, UK and current home. If anyone’s interested I’m called mcsmoggle on there.

Under certain posts the comments can get pretty awful, but I just avoid those and it makes for a much healthier social media experience.

Pintrest is another platform with the ability to show off collections and without the "noise" of comments.

Anyway here is the shirt museum Insta page

Why does it get slated

I’ve not been on long but prior to joining I thought it would be a lot more shallow than it was - wall to wall selfies, tired memes, “look at me look at me” posts, that kind of thing. That’s certainly a part of it and fair enough, but there’s so many other things, often very clever, on there so avoiding stuff of less interest is quite easy. My wife has a couple of creative non-personal accounts that supplement her work and hobbies. There are accounts for almost any hobby you’re into (including several for a boring, niche hobby of mine!) so it can be much deeper than just a shallow medium, as its critics often cite.

Cos of Celebs, influencers, and stereotypes of it just being pictures of peoples food. It's a photo sharing app and you'll have your feed filled with the content you interact with so if you follow football content you'll see football content.

It sets a low barrier of entertainment to being able to post good photos due to its easy editing tools, and I enjoy looking back at the stuff I've shared on there over the years.

Meta (Facebook) obviously use it to gather more marketing info but that's just part of life.
