Anxiety re play offs

My mental health will suffer until full time on Sunday, I’d snap your hand off for a draw now. I have never seen us win at the Ricoh that I can remember. I watched us win 3-1 at highfield road.

I have a big family holiday at the end of the month, after the play-offs are concluded. Between now and then I have a mates weekend away which impacts my viewing of the first leg, then I have the logistics of getting to the second leg (from Manchester) whilst also needing to work (remotely) on both the Wednesday and Thursday. Then there's the small matter of all potential babysitters (and wife) being unavailable for the weekend of the final, meaning I'll be taking a baby to it with me. So it basically feels like my May is being completely dictated by a group of blokes over a 100 miles away who I've never even met. And I can't stop thinking about the possibility of actually winning at Wembley.

I have been nervous all season and could barley watch the games live on Tv kind of half watch them on IPTV where there is a minute or two delay withy the app I use but turn the sound down and end up checking live on the internet if there any goals so I can watch them if Boro score or turn it off if we concede mental I know ... but for the play offs don't really feel nervous think we will be great and do the business and if not next season will be brilliant

Its a strange situation really. Next season would be far more enjoyable for the supporters if we're in the championship where we can compete at the top end of the division rather than struggling week in, week out in the premier league.

If we're sensible and don't blow our wad although we're likely to end up relegated a year in the premier league would hugely strengthen the club.

Complete defeatist attitude, Compare the seasons of Brighton, Villa, Brentford, Fulham, Wolves, Bournemouth.. Leicester, Leeds and even Forest. They have all been up there competing at the very top level of football. Winning 3-0 in the championship does not compare to premier league football. The few cup games with the likes of Man City, Man Utd, Spurs have been some of our most memorable games.. because they are not Championship teams.

Its not defeatist at all. Its realistic. I think its fair to say all of those teams went up with stronger squads than us. Some like wolves and fulham had much stronger squads than we currently have.

If we go up we would be doing it with a weaker squad than the other two promoted teams. The odds of avoiding relegation would be hugely stacked against us.

True, but we were all scarred by the last time we went up. Truly, I with we hadn't have bothered, we were so rank. At least under Carrick we will attempt to play the right way. We may end up doing a Norwich, mind, and conceding loads.
It would be great if we went up no matter if we went down again, because like mfc79 said, we'd benefit so much financially. That's not the same as saying you hope we'll go down, just that we are unlikely to benefit from loan signings as good as Archer & Ramsey again, so I feel we have to take our chance now.. We may get one or both back in the Prem too - to help do damage to Villa's rivals.
If we don't go up, you still fancy Carrick to get us close again, but look how injuries can suddenly take their toll...

I’m not scarred, clear our gambles weren’t paying off, karanka wasn’t cutting it and our recruitment was dog eggs. It was made worse by Monk & Pulis imo.

I'm so confident in this team, these last 3 results have no altered my oppinnion that I think we're gonna win it. Doesn't stop the ghost of Norwich looming in my brain though. I wasn't overly bothered for some reason the year Villa beat us. But this year it's a mix of excitement and nerves

Clearly a trip to the Premiership benefits the club financially. So the club need to go up at all costs.
I would love to think it benefits me too but it's a terrible division - less games and poor away days.

Exactly how I feel. Pulis year felt a bonus. This year it feels so close. If we don't do it I feel it will be due to injuries. But I definitely think we have another 60% to give over what we showed yesterday. I wish it was Sunday tomorrow.

Today was awful at work. Mind not on it at all.

It’s ridiculous as I’m not nervous at all, I just don’t see how we don’t win the semi final and then in a one off game at Wembley I’d fancy us to beat Luton or Sunderland (even with our Wembley hoodoo) quite easily.

However I have also felt the same in the past namely🙈

Leicester last game of the season
Bolton Carling Cup
Leicester CC Cup final
Norwich play off final

Well , this is all highly normal according to my doctor visit today. I was reminded by him that expected anxiety varies with the square of the number of days since the last game factored by a constant for your team, so for us it's xA = Bxd(squared). The Boro constant B is quite high as we don't get to massively meaningful games frequently. So there you have it, I went for some calmers and came away with some maths equation . 🤷‍♂️ Totally feel fobbed off

My play off anxiety centres around the likely break up of the team if we don't go up.

Steffen - would be a very expensive deal to complete in the championship.
Giles - Most likely of the loan players to sign, but wont be cheap and could see a newly promoted team taking him, either on another loan or permanent
Ramsey - think villa will want him for squad strength, especially if the sneak into Europe, or a Prem loan
Archer - See Ramsey
Akpom - into the last year of his contract and at the age where he will want a big contract to secure his financial future, we won't be able to offer anything like a prem or parachute flush team could.
Howson - The drop off with age will hit at some point.

That's 6 starters in our best 11. Replacing them will be a mammoth task in the championship, both financially, and from the viewpoint of actually getting the recruitment right. This doesn't feel like it did with AK when we got to the play offs and we could re load and go again with minor tweaks.
