I've lived in oz for over fifty years and as much as I love the country and it's people, it doesn't even
slightly compare to the love that I have for England, my homeland and its people.
However, I wouldn't have to consider for a single second that an England world cup win over a Boro victory
( never mind promotion ) would bring me anywhere near the same joy.
My love for the Boro is on another planet to anything else on this planet.
( better post this quickly, the missus has just got out of bed ;) )

I'd rather boro win a scrappy 1-0 at Peterborough rather than beating Argentina 5-4 in the world cup final. Anyone saying England needs a good 8 hours and a rethink!
Exactly we spend all our hard earned money week in week out to watch the Boro so really don’t get how England is the preference for any one really. I would love England to win the World Cup but I can’t sit here and pretend it even gives me half the feeling of a successful Boro team and the pain is no where near the same either.

I'd rather see Jones, crooks, fry and payero do well over Maguire, grealish, sterling and pickford. I want England to do well but never over the boro.

The Boro aren't in it. I love football as a sport but I have little time for the commercialised abomination that is the 21st-century professional game. Qatar is an abomination on steroids (probably literally).

Fair enough. You do realise Boro were pretty much the poster boys for the "commercialised abomination " of Football. One of, if not the first modern all seater stadium, one of the first to have a stadium sponsor, the first football club to have it's own dedicated TV channel, massive wages, signing big name players arguably for the sake of it etc.
I don't have a problem with any of these things, clubs gotta evolve, but I find it a bit strange when Boro fans are a bit snobby about Football becoming more commercial when we were at the forefront of it.

I do love a good dose of honesty getting dishes out.

Some people have zero self awareness.

That's a mic drop kind of moment.

I quite agree. I've been losing interest since the start of Sky, the Premier League and all-seater stadiums.

I can guarantee you, the majority of the same people across the country who say "I couldn't care less about England ", will be the same people who are completely obsessed when England get to the latter stages of a tournament. Including on here.
I can guarentee you that I wont watch a minute of any England games, bar what will be shown on the news, only Boro for me

Fairly easy choice for me, England win the World Cup.

The only thing that made me hesitate slightly was where the World Cup is held.

Middlesbrough will get promoted at some point in the future, whether it's this season or later.

But seeing your country win the biggest trophy in football is a much, much rarer experience.
already seen it in 66. To see it in Qatar would be a very empty experience. For me it would tarnish English football when you would see it against that backdrop of whatever they come up with.

To be honest I want England to fail in qatar it's an absolute disgrace the tournament is going ahead. If they won it it would be tainted in my eyes. if it was another world cup then it would be a closer choice but I would still say Boro
Excellent post, shouldnt go ahead at all, a big reason why I wont watch or have no interest, double standards but there you go

The curious thing is that we could have both happen this year. Ordinarily I wouldn’t bet on it but stranger things have happened. Anyone get the odds? They must be around 500-1? If so, I’ll have a sly tenner on it! Lol 😆

I doubt you’d get 500-1, bookies are tight when asking for specials.

I think you’d get bigger odds asking for England winning the World Cup and either Boro being relegated from the Premier League or retaining their Premier League status in the same footballing season.

Only 33/1.

But it's understandable, England are one of the favourites to win the World Cup and Middlesbrough are one of the favourites for play-off promotion.

Promotion, it will make such a significant difference to the club if we can get promoted in the next few years while the money is so high. A World Cup would be special but nowhere near promotion
