And so it begins.......Boro miss out on first striker target. Collins off to Cardiff

Kieffer Moore may well have used us a bargaining chip last summer for a club with a bigger budget to open their purse strings a bit wider. Same thing could have happened again or it could be we weren't even really at the party in the first place.

As I said the other day, I'm absolutely not bothered at missing out on Collins. He isn't very mobile, isn't skillful, he'll battle and put a shift in, and win a few headers, even score a few, but he's an absolutely bog standard, run of the mill lower second tier CF.

He's also 30, and probably going to get a big wage bump and a 3 year contract. That means he will struggle to provide a return on the investment.

There are better options out there, I slated Smith at Rotherham the other day, but I think he is a better option, although not what I would go for.

As for Cardiff. If he is backup to Kieffer Moore, then he'll barely play and get about 4 goals. If Moore is injured and he is leading the line for Cardiff, he isn't good enough, they'll fall short of the play offs, have to sell Moore and be left with Collins for another 2 years on an inflated wage.

Braithwaite that is in the starting 11 for Denmark and currently plays for Barca - that Braithwaite S7??
We thought 9 Million was a steal at the time and it was - he was not managed correctly.

The signing of Britt absolutely killed us, as paying the amount that we paid for him meant he had to start, and this meant both Braithwaite and Bamford were misused.

It's ironic to think Braithwaite ended up at Barca and Bamford has ended up as one of the Premier League's top scorers. Imagine what could have been if we had never signed Britt and played Bamford and Braithwaite up front together.

Stuani, Bamford & Braithwaite!🙈

Pulis getting shot of - by far our best striker - Bamford was always a ridiculous deal..
Britt, it turned out, was just a very poor transfer - too expensive, too costly in wages while under-delivering in performances & goals..

As said , he’s 30 year old so no up side
Keenan Davis - loan
Jordan Hugill loan
Ellis Simms loan
Diedhiou
Dion Charles
Charlie Wyke
Joe Pigott
Michael Smith
Siriki Dembele
Jerry Yates
Rhys Healey
Reo Griffiths
Mikel Uhre
Haji Wright
Okenabirhie
Cole Stockton
Carlos Mendes Gomes
Kyle Joseph
Aaron Collins FG Rovers , more a no 10 and his brother Lewis at Newport , CF age 20
All still decent options to James Collins , maybe the papers have got the wrong Collins ?

Yes that Braithwaite who cost 9mil and sold for less than half after 18 months. The Braithwaite who according to Pulis was one of the highest played players in the champo (also in his top 5 when he was in the prem with WBA). This suggests he had a 4 year deal that was better than Britts.

The same one who had two loan spells during his short stint. I'm not sure anyone thought he was a 'steal?'. We had just spent 22mil on 2 other forwards (who next month leave for nothing). A 'steal' is Maupay for 1.6mil or Adam Armstrong for 1.5 Mil.

I imagine in his short spell he cost us a fortune. Although I'll grant you not in the same category as Rudy😕.

Can’t we dispel with looking back? We all know the disastrous signings. We need to look at the here and now. And that is as challenging as anything we’ve faced in recent times

How much would he be worth now do you think S7?

Less than Barcelona paid for him, which they only did because of a litany of injuries and he was one of the few options available through a ridiculous La Liga rule for mandatory release clauses and emergency injury signings.

It was a scandal that they were able to poach him for Leganes outside of the transfer window, against Leganes' will,
effectively ensuring Leganes' relegation.

I'd bet that he'll be on his way out in the summer.
He's barely played for them in 2021 for a reason.

Cardiff nest year will be in their third year after relegation - they will be reducing their wage bill overall.

Collins name only appeared with us very recently. I would be surprised if he was a prime target.

In hindsight we would have been better off keeping Stuani and not spending the £31m on Britt, Fletcher and Braithwaite. It still gets to me that we messed up so badly following relegation. This team would have all but guaranteed us promotion....

Christie
Ayala
Gibson

Traore
Clayton
Howson

Stuani

Monk wasted half the money he spent and Pulis couldn't manage the players we had.

Braithwaite was not the problem

I have added Ellis Simms to my list
CF playing for Blackpool , on loan from Everton .
Only 20 , but great pace and tall at 1.91m
Just scored again , making it 10 goals 2 assists in 22 for Blackpool
Plus 8 goals in 12 for Everton u23.
Could be a great impact sub.
Blackpool may go up and try to keep him, but maybe a step higher to us ( bigger club ) would be a better move for him and Everton.
Like a young Harry Kane .
