And so it begins.......Boro miss out on first striker target. Collins off to Cardiff

I think we have to be realistic for once. we were only attracting players as we were overpaying. That strategy bit us hard on the backside and we now can not compete financially with some clubs. We will have the team the club can afford.

Early deals will likely be by teams willing to go the extra mile with their money. There will be a shed load of players scrambling for clubs as the season draws near. We will pick up players as they and their agents become more self aware. It might mean a slow start to the new campaign, but given the last two seasons and covid, i am just pleased we have a club and hope i can reclaim my seat in the stadium, providing Boris and the Indian variant don’t intervene

I would have liked to have seen this guy join - 14 goals this season and similar last in a bang average Luton side

The fact he is probably going to warm the bench is most disappointing - not sure who would buy Keiffer Moore, he doesnt look a Prem player and cant see him going anywhere in the champo

Here we go again, what is it with players choosing Cardiff over 'Boro...

Guess it's a Southern capital city even though it's in Wales, maybe they offer more than us....

Makes me feel Warnock maybe a little premature ditching Akpom, even if he doesn't really fit into how we are gonna play...

As we might end up scratching around with no one & either have to play a disillusioned player, or take on board far inferior options....

We shall see i guess, i ain't overly optimistic right now sadly....

Because he played for relegated Wigan perchance? He scored 17 the previous season for Barnsley.
Relegated because of a points deduction.
Wigan finished above us in the actual table.

He scored 17 in League One for Barnsley.
In that same season, Collins scored 25 for Luton in League One.

My point is that there's every chance Collins could increase his scoring at Cardiff.

At the level we’re looking at, there are literally thousands of players around the world potentially available to sign. It’s just a case of finding the ones that fit into our budget. It could be that Cardiff have a bigger budget than us or they may just value him higher than we do. I have no problem with us making speculative offers and low balling players hoping for a bargain. It’s far better than paying silly wages to guarantee early signings.

To be honest it's maybe location / contract length or simply money. Also as stated it could be Mick Mccarthy as he's played under him for Ireland.

I for one am glad we don't just pay 'whatever' is asked. It's only a few years ago we signed off on 30k+ a week for Braithwaite and Britt. Absolute madness as it means you can't give them away if sh*t because no fecker can pay them.

I don't know what happened with Collins or many others. Yet if we offer 10k a week (probably more than he's on at Luton) and Cardiff offer 20k then they can frankly have him. I don't want us held to ransom because I imagine many agents still think Boro are an 'easy touch'.

We had many years of blowing teams out of the water in terms of wages. I guess the boot is well and truly on the other foot. Just wait until the 3 relegated teams come in for players. We have no chance.

The market is such that many clubs are in for the same players. I imagine it's heaven for agents playing clubs off each other.

Braithwaite that is in the starting 11 for Denmark and currently plays for Barca - that Braithwaite S7??
We thought 9 Million was a steal at the time and it was - he was not managed correctly.

These are the sort of players we should be looking at a_a. Maybe get an old head in too, someone with a bit of experience.

One thing is for sure, they aren't going to be any worse than the shiite we've had to put up with for the last few seasons!

The season has only been done a week and already people are getting their knickers in a twist over the big lad from Luton going to Cardiff? We have absolutely no idea whether Boro were even interested in him. He is a 30 year-old who has scored most of his goals in Leagues One and Two. I think people should remember that we are going to be linked with about 60 strikers this summer because Warnock has made public his feelings on where we most need to improve/strengthen. Collins' name is in the paper because of that. You can't lose your head every time another club sign a striker, surely.

To my mind this is classic FMTTMism - if we'd signed him there'd be people criticising or dismissing it, but now he's going to another club the same people can criticise the Boro for missing out. Or, rather, 'failing' to attract a Luton player. The club can't win in cases like this IMO because if they actually are/were interested in him and shelled out more money than they were originally willing to spend then they'd have been accused of overpaying, whereas now they can be accused of not paying enough and we can discuss 'how far we have fallen'.
