And so it begins.......Boro miss out on first striker target. Collins off to Cardiff

It's disappointing but not surprising.
He's going to a team that's consistently finished above us in the last 4 seasons and apparently offer better wages.

What's more disappointing is he's happy to go there as a backup to Moore, unless they plan on selling him.

The funny thing is that as soon as I read this artical this morning I knew it would come up.

I am pretty sure if you look at the James Collins thread many were saying 'how far have we fallen? ' or 'why are we after a 30 year old? ' and even 'have we given up?' etc.

I am sure many will now read this and use it as ammunition to blast the club despite saying they didn't want him anyhow😂

You'd think if we missed out on every player we'd been linked with then fans on here would be happy as they don't rate any of them?

The issue is probably magnified by covid. No clubs have any money so they are all going after the same players. It then simply comes down to wages and maybe location. I mean Cardiff are no better than us and if anything are frankly awful to watch. They are that direct they make us look like City. It helps having a guy who can launch a throw into the box from the halfway line.

That's twice they have beaten us to a signature. I'd say Collins and Moore is a pretty decent front 2 for the best part of 2mil. Then again what's to say they can keep hold of Moore?

I imagine this is the first of many. Although it has to be said that we may have never even gone for many of the'linked' names in the past.

It's slightly worrying. We at least had 2 dud forwards to fallback on last summer. This season we have one forward and he's been told he can leave.

This moves us one step closer to Matt Smith. Although I'd take the Rotherham one but they want 1mil so probably out of our price range😂

Cardiff still with parachute payments? If so then they will have been able to offer more in wages. Also isn’t he from the West Midlands, closer to home?

I am not too fussed, but I understand the wider point you make. It is all about money and Cardiff will have offered more. We seem to be shopping at Poundland with 99p in our pockets unfortunately

I’d imagine the Mick McCarthy factor had a say owing to their Republic links .

ps . There must be some decent players in Northern leagues worth checking out . Jesus if Akpom can shake a barrel there must be a couple of lads worth checking out for the potential price of a teams footy kits .

It's a shame they didn't go for Britt or Fletcher. I wonder what wage they will be asking? I imagine they are in for shock.

I thought Cardiff were supposedly struggling with finances. Didn't they apply for an emergency EFL loan earlier this year or something?

So they're taking the proverbial if they're blowing us out the water on wages again (not necessarily the case, but seems likely, usually comes down to £££).

Bet Gibson is fuming.

They maybe know that Moore is likely to leave. You'd think a few clubs would be interested.

I would be stunned if he's not on Burnleys radar. A proper Dyche forward😂

Doesn't everyone want us to reduce our wage bill? If that is the case then we will not be able to compete with top end Championship clubs.
Free transfer means his wage demands and length of contract would be higher.
Surely there is no reason to panic yet. It is still over a month until contracts come to an end.

I don't know what we do, or don't do in recruitment discussions. Whatever it is it doesn't look very good. If we have had a bite at Collins (who knows) and he's an early one, we're hardly going to work our way up the list of targets. More like down.

All that said, most of it is gossip, speculation, mischief. We don't really know do we?

Fingers crossed.
