All we have to do is beat Cardiff

Southgate has to go if we dont make the final as a minimum. Has any side ever had an easier run to a world cup and euro final than this?

Don't be daft man. I'm confident we can beat Germany but we've not knocked out a top national side in the knockout stages since 1966, I'll repeat that since 1966, 55 years ago!
It'll hardly be an unprecedented and unforgivable failure if we don't get past Germany.

And the nonsense about it being an easy route to the semis of the World Cup is rubbish too. Czech Republic showed today there are no easy games in the latter stages of tournaments. England beat exactly the sort of teams England sides had been losing to and failing against for generations.

Edit-I forgot we knocked out Spain in 96.😳

The last time we beat a big nation in a knockout stage in 90 minutes was Spain in the 1968 European championships.

What about Spain in 96? Anyway looks like I forgot two victories so my credibility is gone.🤣

Edit- You said in 90 minutes, I've just realised. I'm having a mare, also known today as a De Ligt. Or a Welsh player, any will do.

Watched highlights of England 4 Holland 1 a few days ago,I honestly don't think a single 1 of the current team would get into that side.

Really? You think Darren Anderton is better than any of our current players? I'd also probably take any of our right backs over Gary Neville. I prefer Grealish to Mcmanaman as well.

Its always hard to compare players who's career is finished with ones who are only half way through or just starting their careers. Players like Kane, Mount and Foden might prove by the time their careers finish they are better players than their 96 counterparts.

That, and the fact they were quite a lot better than us that season. The league table doesn't lie.

Had we beaten Cardiff, we would still have had a less than 50/50 chance of lifting the cup.
Pompey would have been favourites for the final, and there's always a thin chance we'd have lost in the semi.

It may still be the best chance we get in my life time. Yes, it still hurts, but we exaggerate how close we were. We love to pity ourselves over this, and it's sometimes just used as an excuse to beat GS.
We should have won the fa cup in 2006. Dean Ashton should have been sent off.

West Ham were seconds away from beating them.

The final was at Cardiff as well.

And to add to that, we have only ever won one knockout game at the Euro’s. How depressing of a stat is that
It is when you think of how big a footballing nation we are, the huge successes we've had in club football over the decades and the quality of players we produce. Our international record is really quite poor outside of 1966.
I sometimes think France have it right. Every now and again they seem to have a complete meltdown, like fail to qualify (1990, 1994), or get dumped out at the group stage despite being favourites (2002), but will bounce back and reach a final or win outright next time around.

I'd also probably take any of our right backs over Gary Neville.

Surely you've got to be joking?

Gary Neville was one of the best RBs in the world and arguably the greatest RB ever to play in the Premier League.

Trippier Walker & James aren't fit to lace his boots.

I think at one time we had the best FBs in the world. Ashley Cole & Gary Neville.

Funny I never really rated him that highly. Obviously a good player and a great player to have in your team, but I'd have always put him in the solid but unspectacular category. I also remember him being utterly terrible at Euro 2000 which may have influenced my opinion slightly!

or get dumped out at the group stage despite being favourites (2002)

Strange but true: European WC winners have developed a habit of being dumped out at the group stage of the next tournament.

France, Italy, Spain and Germany have done it.
You have to go right back to Germany in '94 for the last time one made it through, and you can argue that wasn't really the same nation as Germany had re-unified since the previous WC.

We imagine these nations have never ending dynasties, but they don't.

Gary Neville was a superb full back,Darren Anderton doesn't get the credit he deserves because of his terrible injury record,a peak Anderton gets in the current team for me

One last "Cardiff" to go whilst we shouldn't underestimate Denmark l feel strangely optimistic about tonight's game
err a bit like l did the day of the Cardiff game.
Surely we have enough ammunition and know how to manage the game. After all who was in charge of the Boro then????
Come on England your time of destiny is here!!
2-0
And ltaly are knackered anyway
