Aaron Connolly message

Strange to pick a game against the world champions where we barely got close to them to criticise him, it certainly wasn’t through lack of effort for anyone, we were just completely outclassed which you can’t blame on one player

He wasn’t ever on loan at Stoke so not sure where you got that from, it looks like any problems he had were fairly minor and standard thing for a young lad with too much money, nothing to suggest he has these problems now and has done nothing whilst at Boro to show he isn’t committed. The way some go on you would think he was a young Nile Ranger

I don’t think he has exactly been impressive since we signed him minus a few games but again none of our strikers have been better than average at best, strange how Connolly gets all of this criticism over the rest of our strikers. But again you are clearly another one who decided they didn’t like him the second he signed and nothing will really change that opinion
Your last part seems very much like what you've done with Joe Lumley.

Connolly certainly does not lack effort - it was making runs yesterday and high pressing Swansea defenders. He took Riley's pass perfectly in the 90th minute and was a bit unlucky with his shot, even when it hit the post it could have come back to him to put in. However when he decided to shot it looked easier to shoot slightly over the keeper centrally or go for the top left opposed to trying to roll the ball towards the right hand post. There was just a very narrow gap going the way he went.

I can see some goals will come for him because his efforts and mobility, but his all round play is a bit limited and some of his decison making is limited too. Will it improve, who knows. Vardy developed in his late 20s.

He’s got talent, I don’t see a disciplinary shortcoming or a bad attitude. His relationship seems to have caused him a bit of bother.. but whose hasn’t!

MFC IS a home for disadvantaged footballers and psychological basket cases

We’re the raggy dolls.. dolls like you and me!
Plenty of sad sacks atm 🥴

Give over man. The chance was excellent. Watch it again, he chose completely the wrong thing to do, then did it really badly.
AGAIN.

At least we know AC will soon be just a thing of the past. Wonder how many Connolly shirts the club shop sold? Probably just a couple -for his personal use.

Probably none! In fact no one that we signed in January because we’d ran out of shirts by Christmas!

Overall - It was a good chance and yes I expected him to take it a decent Championship striker would likley score from the position he was in.

We did miss a few sitters as a team- Tav, Djksteel and Sporar all spurned very good chances probably better than anything Swansea had

Looking back, the loan signings of Balogun and Connolly were massive gambles.

I think Wilder possibly underestimated just what a step up it is to go from u23 level to senior. He may have naively thought that if they can score for fun at u23 level, they should be able to score in the Championship.

Neither of them have proven themselves at this level.

Connolly has scored in the premier league made four appearances this season.

Balogun is a hot prospect who has made two prem appearances this season.

Who else would be have gone for?

Jordan Hugill 3 Championship goals in 25 appearances?

Keinan Davis one Premier League appearance.. 5 in 15 for Forest / mentioned him on here I think under Warnock.. didn’t go down well. Rubbish, finished, plodder etc

I still think Connolly will come good and Balogun is still a very talented player.

Just because it hasn’t happened doesn’t mean it won’t..

I can't remember many people on here complaining when we signed Balogun. There weren't cries of "Oh this is a massive gamble, don't do it" - in fact the opposite - the Club and management were being praised for getting in a top premier league prospect. In hindsight of course we can say it now but you have to take risks.

Looks like he's been dumped by the lovely Lucinda.

Sounds like their relationship has been in bother for a while.. seems to have coincided with his drop in form. He’s a young lad at a critical point in his career. I think we should stick with him.

Every loan is a gamble, especially with youngsters.

Balogun I was most excited about as he is very highly rated. He's shown glimpses of his quality but I think there are a few issues with him. I think he tries too hard to do clever stuff almost like he's showing off, he's not used to playing against men so he is struggling physically and I don't think he's particularly bothered. He doesn't seem like a hard worker. He needs to knuckle down, do the basics and then use that platform to show off. People will be far more impressed by scoring tap ins every week than by some fancy flicks for a youtube highlight reel.

Connolly I was happy with the signing at the time but he's just not the player I thought he was going to be. I didn't know much about him so I was only going of the few glimpses of him I had seen which will have been when he scored in the PL. I have seen nothing from him at all that impresses me even remotely.

Me thinking they are good signings is very different to our recruitment team though. I would have hoped that the team will have seen them playing before signing them. If they did then I worry about their judgement of Connolly in particular.

1-0 - Boro vs Cardiff (Sporar 89)
1-0 - Boro vs Stoke ( Balogun 86)
0-1 - Preston vs Boro (Connolly 92)

Then who has the best strikers in the championship?

It still definitely wouldn't be us.

If that happened, Sporar would be our top scorer on 9 goals, which would still only be joint 28th in the Championship as it stands.

Connolly would be joint 109th with 3.
Balogun would be joint 108th with 4.
