Aaron Connolly and Folarin Balogun

They were brilliant, really linked up well together. By far the best game Connolly has had for us too. I was disappointed Watmore/Sporar didnt play after how good they looked the other night, but this gives us a great option for future games. Impossible to say who deserves to play against Bristol but we have 4 strikers who are all very good players, cant remember a time we have had that
It's a nice headache to have isn't it. In a way I like Watmore coming on in the 2nd half, chasing down defenders with tired legs. It was his pressing which led to the 4th goal.

I wouldn't say these four are as good but they do remind me of the time we had Viduka, Yakubu, Hasselbaink, Nemeth & Maccarone.

We once again have a wealth of good players.

na balogun threw himself to the floor for nothing. seen a few replays. deffo not a pen or a freekick anywhere else on the pitch. lucky he never got done for diving.

Yakubu, Hasselbaink, Viduka and…Maccarone 😍

Wow! Crazy. Big statement.

Only joking, I get your point. these guys are OK, Nemeth and Mac level. But that's good enough at this point

I didn’t realise he’d been given the goal until about an hour ago , I thought it was classed as an own goal so good he's off the mark

Thought Connolly played very well and grew in confidence and stature after his goal. Looked really sharp and quick off the mark to close down. Could be a big player for us now.
Have you heard his post-match interview? I mean he actually does say his confidence is low, but you can tell it’s not quite there just yet even by the way he conducts himself in the interview. Mentions that it was always going to be a goal like today that got him his first, was really nice to see the rest of the team go up to congratulate him when he was subbed.

I too liked the way they are 'fitting in' to the way CW wants. Rotating front men, it's a continuation of the same with a bit more energy as the subs come on. And great to see the applause from CW and pats/nods from the players as they leave the field of play. Real team spirit.

I don't actually think we rely on Jones as such. Yes, he's provided a wealth of assists, but he's not doing it all on his own.
We engineer chances as a team and it just so happens that our right side is often the one supplying the final ball.
As Balogan gets more up to speed I think you'll see a slightly different approach down the left, possibly as a result of crossfield balls from the right.
I highlighted such a move between Crooks and Watmore on Wednesday and I think it'll become a bigger feature of our game.
Our January additions are bedding nicely so far.

Exactly it was obvious that’s why he never took pen too. This is why I never wrote him off after couple of games like lots of people did, yesterday could be massive for him. As @JM14 said, feel he will be a big player for us now and really show some good form

I agree that Connolly performed well today. As mentioned in the post above, in his post match interview he conceded that he’s been guff so far and was down on himself about it, but felt as though he found his feet today (and that Wider told him as much when he left the pitch).

It takes time for players to adapt but both these lads seem to be finding their feet now.
Big step up for Balogun but he has some lovely touches, can see both playing a huge part in our success

Yeah, looked to me as if he was shoved off the ball. Think anywhere else on the pitch that's a foul.
It boils my plss that, the defender used his physical strength to knock Balogan who was slightly unbalanced off the ball in the box, no foul, no penalty. Defender grabs Balogan by the shirt and drags him along the ground to remonstrate with him, nothing done. Referee didn't even get involved, play goes on.

Ten minutes later, outside the box, Balogan uses his strength to knock the defender who is slightly unbalanced off the ball, immediate whistle and free kick in defenders favour.

I hate that certain rules aren't as strictly enforced in the box. There maybe a big rise in penalties for a while, but the players would have to adapt.

Or the flip side, neither are given as fouls and we play on.

It always seems the 'maybe fouls', or 'I've seen them given' type ones are routinely awarded outside the box, or when a defender commits them, but not as often inside the box, or if a forward closing down a defender commits them.

Edit*

Unless it is Man U or Liverpool etc. obviously.

I heard a YouTuber talk us up with the prospect of us hitting the back of the net more with our January signings . Everyone can see the potential now we sit back and wait now they’ve had time to settle in
