Aaron Connolly and Folarin Balogun

I agree with this but can’t see Connolly ever being a ‘star’.
balogun might have potential he definitely has skill but being championship ready hes way off so far. He could end up another like Lukas Nmecha struggling to adjust the hustle of the championship. I also dont think its a great policy to bring in loans to replace existing loans which is what wilder seems to be doing with connolly and sporar. If i was sporar i would be well ***ed off at losing a place in the team to connolly who looks technically inferior as well as not up to fitness.

I thought Connolly was a bit better today and had some decent chances, looked a bit more "up to speed"

Balogun's approach play is OK, but he doesn't look like he is going to score many goals which is concerning.

That’s the one I don’t get as surely for spora to come on loan from sorting Lisbon then we would have prob made a similar deal.

Uche and Hernanez were never going to fit into this system

Dom't really see why Uche couldn't have stuck around and been part of it tbh. We had 13 corners today. I'd back Uche to outscore either of the new forwards if he got their minutes on the pitch until the end of the season. In fairness he maybe wouldn't have pulled off the assist Balogun managed last week but the game was already won at that point.

Balogun looks like a typical Arsenal player.. Thinks he's better than he is and doesn't look like he wants to put it in and earn it.

Connolly is busy and moves around well but is poor in-front of goal.

I'd have Watmore first choice striker and probably Sporar as the 2nd.

I absolutely agree, if only as another option when we are chasing a game. Like today.

He was knackered 60 minutes into a game with warnocks system, he wouldn’t last the first half playing like this

Balogun should have came off after he shot from outside the box when there was a far better option in Jones who was free. Awful decision and would have thought Wilder would be fuming at that.

I think they are hampered as they've both been out of 1st team football.
It is a cliché but I'd almost say they are trying too hard to impress & prove they are worth it, when they should be linking up and working together.

If one of Connolly/Balogun (20/21 I think) was paired with Sporar/Watmore (both 28 I think) and could rely on the more experienced player to guide them through a game & ensure they worked together as a pair, I think that would be better for them & obviously us.

That would have suited us! Jobshare with Watmore. 2 players having an effective 45 minutes has gotta be better than Connelly or Balogun getting 90 mins and never looking like scoring.

We scored 4 last week with the front two looking brilliant together. That doesn’t change from one poor performance

It’s the second full game they’ve played together
Yep, didn't think either had done enough to warrant a start & was surprised to see them both up front in that 1st game .
I wouldn't say they we're "brilliant" either but today they certainly regressed to the mean.

What’s the mean in this situation? Too much fancy Dan stuff?

they were brilliant vs derby? i'm not having that like. connolly was miles better today than vs derby. the result has shifted everyones perception as it always does. balogun did a fancy backheel to set up watmore late on and connolly scored from a shot that was heading to the corner flag before a deflection. today connolly had several chances and balogun had a few. they were far more active in this game.

if we won today in an alternate reality and they didnt do anything different but other players got the goals. people would probably rave about connolly and say balo did well to. i dont think we can rely on both of these young unproven lads to shoot us to the premier league. if we do try it. we wont be going up, because we wont be scoring enough goals.

Connally has international and prem experience. I expect a bit more despite his young age.

I'd say Balogun looks like a player who's spent his whole life playing in the premier league 2 (U23s). He's very raw and for me needs to many touches. I think it shows just because he's got 50 odd goals in 70 odd games is pretty irrelevant. I doubt they even tackle at that level.

We maybe needed an experienced champo back up.

Do either look 'better' than young Josh Coburn? I know they are different styles yet I'd say Josh offers as much infront of goal. I mean he's more senior goals than 40k a week balogan.
