18,000+ ST Holders

You have to remember that a lot of that bump in season tickets will be made up of people who paid on a match-by-match basis last year, so won't also buy on the day

There will be some new fans coming who will go match-by-match but not commit to a season ticket, but I'd wager not as many people who converted to season tickets

Still, selling more season tickets can't be a bad thing (y)
Matt - I agree with your logic than some walk ups will be converted to STs, but as you say new fans from (non fans, relapsed fans & occasional fan) will come to. I would say its more 50/50 based on the Karanka years from our average went from around 18k to 26.5k in the Championship. So in 2 seasons about 8.5k fans reappeared - over 4k a season. I am only suggesting 3k will reappear next season.

If MFC never dip below 19k next season it does not take a great effort to average 25k.

I expect the Sunderland game to be very close to a sell out or sell out (31k) and Boxing Day to be close to a sell out.

Of course this all depends on the Club looking like they have a chance of promotion.

2k more STs = approx £1.1m - it would help, but not cover their wages (£2m).

Having said that moving on Ikpeazu and Akpom and the extra STs would pay the wages of 2 top 6 strikers. :)

Ref: season tickets if 19k are sold, its going to be tougher to get away tickets this season.

On the whole MFC tickets are expensive, but not as expensive as some posters make out.

And look at Huddersfield as it stands today - what would you rather have a £299 ST or pay £150 per season more and have a bigger budget for better quality players and thus keeping an excellent manager?

My point regarding buying the strikers who could 'potentially' fire us to automatic promotion were on putting bums on seats, not the cost of a ST

The thing about casual fans is that they don't come to every match, so its not the same casual fans turning up to each match.

If we average 3k casual fans per match, that probably means there's a pool of 10-15k fans each attending a few matches a season.

If 3k of them become ST holders, that still leaves a substantial pool of potential walk up fans.

Lets not forget that gates under Warnock were hovering under 20,000 [average] and after a tough baptism, Boro picked up once Wilder got a grip of them.
Even with the bum-rush of the cup and hanging on to the outside chance of the play-offs, we had some good crowds - even after we`de messed up the game before. I suggest it was the wins over Swansea and Bournemouth - after the Preston debacle - which started to convince us all that Wilder was serious, and we began to see the early fruits of his labour.
We might edge the average to around 25,000+
The big issue`s - we all know - is the dogshcit attendances from away fans and perhaps the ott walk-up prices - but we`ve hammered the last topic to death.
This coming season a draw will => failure and failure isnt an option.(y)

I love stats opposed to opinions - looks like we were averaging nearly 23.5k from March to April - even if we just add another new 1500 fans from the 3,000 to 3,500 new season ticket holders we hit 25k average.

Ref Away fans - three more Northern teams next season likely means slightly more away fans.

Don't know where you are getting your ST price from. £449?

Some interesting points on here - though some are flawed. It would be enlightening to find out the % of fans who don’t reside in Middlesbrough. I would hazard a guess it is pretty substantial.
Yes, it would be great to see a breakdown of season card holders by postcode.
At least 2 in NE20.

The only data I have seen was from around 1998 - when it was 93% lived in County Cleveland. There were about 26.5k season ticket holders then. I think I paid £260 for East Stand Season ticket. (my guess is that is about £468 in today's money taking into account 80% inflation)

It would not surprise me if more season ticket holders are from outside the old County Cleveland area but not dramatically so.

There is some awful poverty on Teesside, but there are also people who are doing OK but often don't broadcast it. However you see it in house prices in properties in some parts of Teesside and its fringes. Look at Saltburn, Great Ayton, Stokesley, Yarm, Stockton near Preston Park, Nunthorpe, Wynyard, Hutton Rudby.
