🐙Cut your energy bills nearly in half with Octopus Tracker

800 octopoints to a quid I think

Twitter staff I've seen giving out a few thousand points to funny pictures etc

Think you get 500 points for a refwrral

Then you get points for the savings sessions.

Spin the wheel prizes also in points

At a guess, it's cos you gotta manually convert them to bill credit and a small percent of people will o variably never click on that section so save a little bit of money 😂
I'm sure I read they are launching a rewards scheme and a donation scheme soon you can convert them like clubcard points for certain things or give them to a find to help people that are struggling to pay their bills.

the points you get are hardly worth owt.,and the early evening saving sessions are no big savings compared to what youy are paying overall, just my opinion like

Yeah it's not a hill of beans but I suppose it's better than nothing, it's the occasional bit of free cash off the bill. I don't bother with the savings sessions myself

Yep exactly this

2023 hasn't seen a day over the cap rate
2022 has a couple of days end of the year

I'd expect some days if we get now or whatever to breach it but if you switch away as soon as that happens, then you're lobbing away savings on potentially the next 9 months for the sake of a few p a unit
Surprised it's not been "bad" this last week to be honest.

Cold, no wind, snow and a bit out of season is not a good combination which would lead to low consumer demand and high renewable supply (cheap). If it's not been bad "now", then I can't think of many other circumstances where it would, other than Saudi and Qatar stopping shipping gas.

I see this as a quite strong market test, and a test of mettle for the tracker and both handled it very well.

Current price cap is, and will be:
Energy price per unit
1 October to 31 December 2023
Energy price per unit
1 January to 31 March 2024
Electricity27.35 pence per kWh
53.37 pence daily standing charge
28.62 pence per kWh
53.35 pence daily standing charge
Gas6.89 pence per kWh
29.62 pence daily standing charge
7.42 pence per kWh
29.60 pence daily standing charge

Tracker sat at around 22p elec and 6p gas, average, over this last week, but savvy EV drivers will have avoided charging the car during the cold snap.

I think it was only bad last year lately because of ukraine, uncertainty over supplies and the bad weather. People on MS3 have said other years when it's snowed it'd still been better than the old price caps but I suppose these scenarios are all new. Could be some breaches but hopefully nothing like 60p

Looking at the past 365 days now, we're at the point where the spike last December is now out of the last years worth of data.

So we've had snow and cold weather (our condensate pipe even froze which is fun as it's in the loft so no heating for 24 hours!) this year and prices didn't go wild, and accross the year average prices of 19p elec 4.8p gas. Price cap rising slightly in Jan to 29p elec and 7p gas, we've just had a Sunday at 16p elec and 4.8p gas. Hopefully this continues right through winter!

Current savings for me since Feb £776

Can you insulate it?
Inside the house it is insulated but it then goes into the gutter; which it's not meant to but we didn't do it. When we get snow after a few days the gutter usually freezes and then we have a day or two without heating, got away with it last year but not this year. When we eventually redo it we'll try and do it in a better way

Octupus - best energy provider around.
Cant fault them since I`ve been with them.(y)
That's the thing really I think even without the tracker I would still use them - most the things that people hate about energy providers like chasing refunds or changing DD amounts can be done via the app or website and they're really quick at getting back to you even with obscure questions

Significant increase in prices for any new tracker customers from today as Octopus have revised the tracker pricing formula for people new to the tariff.

Remains unchanged for those already on it.

Good news that it remains unchanged, there has been a few iterations of the tracker so far each with different caps etc and usually if you're on it, you're on it. I'll have to have a good read if this later and see how it can effect people joining with some examples vs the old tracker
