🐙Cut your energy bills nearly in half with Octopus Tracker

Rates still good for both gas and electricity.
The gas tracker website is a good one, you can sign up to daily emails re the next day rates.

Anyone on the tracker gone to this OCTOPLUS that they have started?
I think octopus is just like Tesco club card rather than a tariff, once they start doing the turn down and save sessions you will get points in there for that and I think you get about 60p worth for referring someone on top of the usual £50

its all about 'saving sessions' - earning points for using less power at specified times, which are often notified at very short notice

If you are on Octo aid group on fb I think there are some ways to game these sessions and a few people did very well out of them. From
Memory it involved extreme energy usage in the day leading up to it and then virtually nothing that hour. Ev owners did quite well out of it but if you do it in the spirit it's intended you might get a couple of pounds max

I'm a developer and am interested in building something with the octopus api (inspired by the gas tracker guy)

Is there any data/info you'd be interested in looking at, related to octopus and energy prices in general, that isn't currently available to you? Or isn't in a useful format?

Gas tracker site is great, I'd maybe look at what you can get in the various Octo apps and pull some of the best features in there

One feature may be useful for the future is an ability to put in a custom standing charge for each fuel and a custom unit rate and do a 12 month comparison vs that tariff. I do this for people with excel but that should be extremely easy to code to show people how the tracker would compare to any existing fix or a fix they're being offered etc

There are some wind tables that get posted on mse energy forum tracker thread now and then and they tend to show when it's going to be cheap due to higher wind generation

11000 points about £14 which makes it worth doing but you'd need to be able to use a lot of power at the right time to get that

I've got £10 worth of octopoints. Not sure how I've accrued them. I seem to remember signing up to the energy saving measures last year but don't think I changed my habits at all. Must be from that.

Do you have an ev? Apparently it uses the time the previous day for comparison, they say last 4 weeks usage but think they heavily weight the previous day

im just in the process of faffing around with home assistant and smart plugs with energy info, I would love some sort of thing that switches on a smart plug say when the rate drops to less than 10p, initial thinking is possibly for a dehumidifier or a heater

Could you not do that using the existing octopus HA integrations that show unit rates? Only problem I can foresee is you may not want the heat or dehumidifier on just because it's cheap so could lead to higher bills? You could use some temp sensors and have then come on if temp and/or humidity are below/above set values and unit rate is low maybe

Signed up today and hopefully go live on Saturday

Used the OP referral link so thank you @ThatFragranceGuy

Side Note - Been tracking my current prices against that of octopus since the end of October (not a massive window granted) and would have saved around £2 a day for duel fuel (£1.10p for gas and 89p for leccy)

It's mad how much people just have saved using this accross the entire tracker user base with octopus, would love to know how many people are on it in total.

Cornwall insights latest figures still showing prices fairly neutral movement through each quarter - standing charges forecast to go up to 60p for elec as well 👀
