🐙Cut your energy bills nearly in half with Octopus Tracker

Elec in north east with octopus standing charge is 45.99p a day

Gas is 25.56p a day

Todays elec unit rate 17.4p, tomorrow elec 15.9p. It's gone as low as 8p lately but averages 14-18pish

Gas 3.8p a unit today.

All info on how to look up rates, get notifications, tracking apps etc on first post in this thread - lot of info to read but should answer most questions

Thanks - I can only think I am unable to see the page above as I am still waiting for my Smart Meters. As per one of the other threads, once logged in the only offer to move is for another tariff and not the Tracker. I have tried to do a search and also put the Tracker link in manually while logged in but it just takes me back to ask me to log in and I am in the same situation.
That could be it. I'm also on mobile too. Tbh as long as you're on Twitter i wouldn't sweat it, if people have something against twitter then sit on the phone and wait til someone answers i guess 🐙

Managed to join this today..thank for the advice. I'd like to reiterate that contacting Octopus via X ( Twitter) was much more productive than emailing them as I was just getting pointed in the wrong direction by email

I'm on the tracker and a friend wants to switch from EDF,fixed rate runs out at the end of August.
Two questions please
1. Is he best with EDF until fixed rate expires?
2.Do you need a smart meter with Octopus tracker?

Thanks

What is his fix compared to octopus?
Keep in mind it takes a small time to do the switch
Yes need smart meter but they will install one if he can have one, usually quite quick but depends on demand. Don't think they can book one until he joins though.

Unless he is saving hundreds I'd get him to switch now, the £50 credit will soften the blow if any

There are smart meter checklists if he searches but generally stuff like gas and elec meter within 10m of each other and not in a communal space, not at a really high height etc

These are hates forecasts for Cornwall insights

Interesting that they're reducing the figures used for an average co super by 200kwh on gas and 500kwh on elec. I think this will make prices on the cap look like a saving as coming down when many people already use more then the cap

Either way octopus is looking good right now when you look at the forecast unit rates for some time to come

I'm setting my old man up and he's clicking through my referral link. Does anyone know how quickly I can tap them up on twitter to request to move him onto the tracker tariff?
I've got his account number so thinking to just do it straight away?

The earliest you can request it is the day his supply goes live with octopus

Saw this an wondered whether it was a viable option for some, especially those with EV's. It's only available for electric at the moment. If I'm reading it right you can have Electric on the agile tariff and Gas on the tracker.

In a nutshell the electric tariff price changes evey half hour, not daily so it seems perfect for off peak use ( EV charging overnight)

I think it's been worked out that if your not a really high mileage EV user, it's still works out cheaper just having the tracker.

You can have it split between tariffs. Basically Agile is good in two scenarios; 1) You have Solar and possibly battery storage, in which case you can load up when its cheap and rely on solar and battery storage when it is less cheap and 2) you are able to load shift as much as possible, e.g you dont mind dishwasher, washing machine, dryer running at 3am and you don't have kids using consoles, gaming PCs, TV's etc at peak hours like 5-8PM. If you can do that you can take more advantage of the cheaper hours, as well as obviously charging your EV then.

The benefit of the tracker is it is one price for each day, which tends to be a little higher than the Agile price, but if most of your usage is peak time, which for most people it will be, you'll be better off on the tracker. If you have the EV, and just want to live life to a normal schedule without worrying about the costm tracker is for you. If you can load shift, agile will be cheaper, but not by a huge margin so depends if that is worth the effort for you.

It's the peak time costs in agile that are the killer. e.g here is the average for sunday for elec. For tracker it is 15.3p all day. As you can see Agile is cheaper for quite a lot of the day, but the times when most people will use power e.g 16:00-22:30, it is more expensive.

Just joined up and my go live date is the 9th. Do I have to wait until the 9th before asking to be switched?

Yes, day you go live you can tweet them

They'll email you the morning you go live then so it's worth reaching out to them in advance for something trivial, like asking if they can tell you what day you go live even if you already know.

That way they will identify you via DM the first time and then it's a quicker transaction when you're up and running 👌🏻

Have you got Smart Meters? I have to wait until I have had them fitted before I can be switched?

I have requested one. I guess I can ask to be switched and then when I get my meter they will switch me.

Fill out the form now for a smart meter, badger them again day supply goes live. They're generally pretty quick compared to other suppliers. Request a "mini" once you get a smart meter
