“Attitude and the mindset is, we wanna go and f***ing press”

Hopefully we will see a similar style to the one he had at Sheff UTD. It was pretty 'proggesive' stuff.

Although we shouldn't expect miracles. He's got two weeks and the same players until Jan at the earliest. This could take months and a pre season to really take effect.

I'm not sure we have the forwards to press (stand fast Watmore who really grafts).

The likes of McBurnie and Mcgoldrick were pivotal in his Sheff UTD side. All about graft as much as goals. Although saying that Sharp still scored plenty.

absolutely, it's an Elastoplast on a gapping wound right now, the surgery comes in the summer. He has a free hit for the rest of the season for me, as long as I see some green shoots then so be it. We will likely get a mixed bag of results as he transforms the culture, the philosophy and tactics, and some players we like may be pushed out for no buying into this, but so be it.

Our problems in defence lately have been from corners, free kicks and long throws. The high press will really help this as the opposition can’t score many from their own half. (y)

I know that no manger gets time really anymore but our fitness levels aren't going to magically increase overnight and if we try and press now we'll get picked off second half as happens currently.

It will surely take a while for fitness to get to a workable level to press as wilder wants?

In the meantime we will have to really pick our moments of when to press and when to hold.
You can improve fitness in 2 weeks

Yeah I am no expert on this, but I believe cardio fitness is the easiest to improve, and it does so fairly quickly. I am sure we will have some members who took up running or cycling during lockdown who can tell us how quickly they improved.

These players will be a good level already and it’s more difficult to make gains when you are already fit, but you will certainly improve it if you make fitness training more intense

Warnock was he to get shower term results. Wilder is here to get long term results and that will invariably mean we may suffer somewhat in the short term. Apples for apples Nobby

Oh I see, there's a big difference between short term results and long term results....

Probably the silliest statement I've read on here this year....Congrats 👍

Don't worry Nobby. There will be plenty of people calling for him to be sacked after 18 months. People wanted karanka out after he had us promoted. People get bored and want something new.

At our best under warnock we have implemented elements of the press, so I think the players are capable. First half of last season we looked to be going with agressive man to man marking when defending similar to what leeds do and that was working really well. Problems started with the new signings in january who were all nowhere near fitness so our man to man marking dropped right off.

This season our front line has looked to press and done a pretty decent job of it in the main, problem has been we haven't let our pressure tell by scoring goals and then particularly in the second half we've dropped right off. I also don't think the midfield is set up particularly well for the press, I've said this a few times but I don't think Howsen has the legs to do that midfield role anymore and we've looked particularly weak in that area - I wouldn't be surprised to see him move into the back 3 as he looks like he can do a good job there, and truth be told its where we've seen his best performances in a boro shirt. I wouldn't be surprised to see wilder address that midfield in january as a priority.

I think you're spot on 👍
I find it incredible posters wanted Warnock out because it's a 'results based business' and we lost 2 games in a row against Brum and Luton.
Now all of a sudden it's 'longer term results' that matter (whatever that means) and a 'free hit' this season...
Oh but because we're going to ' fcckcing press' now everything's fine.
What a joke...

Happy with this but as above, vital that it's coached correctly. Too many teams these days think perpetual motion counts as pressing (it doesn't)

Need to press smartly, know how to go and when, how many, which positions and critically, what to do with the ball when we win it back. It's no coincidence that the the best pressing sides are probably the most intelligent sides.

It wasn't based on two games though was it?
His results and performances have been generally poor all year. His team wasn't performing as expected.
You might point out various reasons why that was the case but they all lead to the same obvious conclusion - it was time for change.
And now it is time to stop feeling sorry for Warnock and start supporting Wilder.

It's pretty quick, I went from running a 40 minute 5 miles to 34 minute in about 6 weeks.

Look it's a mourning process I'm going through OK ! I'm in the angry/blaming stage, you're just going to have to support me through it...
