“Attitude and the mindset is, we wanna go and f***ing press”

So did Man Utd against Liverpool but look what happened.

I'd love us to play that style and I think Woodgate did too but do we really have those players at the club?

There is no reason why players like Coburn, Watmore, Tav, Crooks, Payero can’t press they are naturally fit lads. Pressing is a skill though and it needs coaching, Wilder knows you can’t press aimlessly and I’m sure there will be lots and lots of work on the training ground to get it right. With United and Ole you can just tell he’s gave instructions rather than worked on anything. Same with Woodgate.

When I first read the title of this thread I'd wondered if it was a quote from his presser.

I thought to myself, surely not.

I think it was Sheffield United at home where we pressed constantly first half and we looked class. Sounds like the new sports scientist was the magic behind Northampton and Sheff United's stamina and fitness during those successful seasons.
We were three goals up within 29 minutes, Flint scored on his debut for his only Boro goal, the score remained 3-0

They hit the post a couple of times, we could have scored more, it looked good for us at that moment but couldnt have proved a false reading for both teams

I meant this season Erimus, but yes I remember that night as well. Also remember us doing similar against Millwall at home last season.

Yes sorry about that, i was referring to CW's team & how we left the ground thinking we'd be one of the promotion chasing teams, not Sheff Utd, hopefully he gets us set up similar to them that season

The problem is with Man Utd is you can they don’t train it, there’s no cohesion. Chris wilder they way he’s talked and from his time at sheff utd that it can happen

we’ve pressed under Warnock is games too

Yes after that game we went top and they went bottom. They then went on a run of 8 wins in 10 and the rest as they say is history.

The problem with Man Utd trying to press is you have to do it as a unit at the right time and Ronaldo doesn't do that. Not sure we have a Ronaldo type so think we should be able to give it a decent go?

There'll be a bedding in period until the players get used to the new system and some casualties as players haven't got it and in them. Could be a few moving between clubs once the window opens but he's got over two months until that closes to see who is up to it.
Agree. It’s quite a switch from allowing the opposition plenty of possession under NW to trying to unsettle the opposition on the ball constantly. Fitness levels hopefully will go up a notch.

I know that no manger gets time really anymore but our fitness levels aren't going to magically increase overnight and if we try and press now we'll get picked off second half as happens currently.

It will surely take a while for fitness to get to a workable level to press as wilder wants?

In the meantime we will have to really pick our moments of when to press and when to hold.
