Boro fan recorded making racist gesture at Leicester

It happens every single time a Boro fan does anything wrong and it's reported on here, he jumps in and tries to make out that it's not that bad and that everybody is overreacting.

A woman caught on camera hurling abuse and calling someone a monkey whilst doing the gesture is a cut and dry case and even then it's getting deflection.
Sorry, I don’t join the pile ons and try to offer a considered approach.

Silly me

Is it any worse because its a female who appears to be with her children?

There's 2 sides to a story, but even if provoked its inexcusable

Caught on camera anyhow so i can see a ban heading in her direction, does that mean a ban for the children too as they won't be allowed to attend games on their own? (Assuming they are ST holders)

The club issued a life time ban to someone who ran on the pitch a few months ago. Surely the same action is applied here along with a criminal charge

Really you think making monkey noises in Leicester !! Is not racially motivated.
I don’t think that’s fair tbh Jedi. I consider you a reasonable poster so I’m disappointed that you’ve ignored the the rest of the post, where I said my initial response was posted earlier and that I considered it almost certainly racist and worth of a hefty ban.

High probability that her kids will be the ones acting like kn0bs and sniffing coke at away games in 10 years time. Is it any surprise with a mother like that? Terrible role model.

I dont think the kids deserve castigating its really not their fault at all. I would hope some positive role model and education would encourage the kids to think for themselves and break the chain of racism

Sorry no offence meant I was just thinking out loud really I think any justification for this action would be extraordinarily good to argue that it wasn’t racially motivated.

Remember Newcastle fans singing fat Eddie Murphy at jimmy Floyd wasn’t racist despite the fact he looks b***r all like the axel F star.

I think we need to stop looking for silly excuses and start calling things out for what they are regardless of who was responsible.

I would put money on this being a racist gesture made by an absolute cretin.

However, what I think newy is getting at is that until we see who it is aimed at how can the authorities deem it to be racist? We can’t act on something we can’t be sure of, even if it seems pretty damning.

If I was to play devils advocate and look for an alternative, however unlikely it is, shouting at someone resembling famous monkey chant receivers like Gareth Bale or Liam Gallagher, or a similar white person with perceived simian qualities, is not so far fetched to be utterly ludicrous, although it would take a special kind of stupid to make gestures like that at anyone knowing how it could turn out… I concede that the above is unlikely but for justice to be done we have to be in possession of all the facts.

Now before I get accused of downplaying or condoning anything, I’m not. I think the most likely scenario is a dim racist doing what dim racists do, and if proven the book should be thrown at her as it’s a thoroughly unacceptable way to behave.

Exactly it’s up to the courts to decide but that gesture in of itself IS racist and given the context and location I’d say she’s got some convincing to do.

I disagree that the gesture is always racist, everything has to be taken in context. I’ve been on the receiving end of similar when I was younger and my ears stuck out, it wasn’t racist. I do accept that its usage is far too often racist though, and that behaviour needs to be eradicated.

The original video from Leicester Fan TV says that she was racially abusing fans in the Family Stand. It's hard to get any lower than this.

If that’s the case then she’s a vile individual that should be dealt with severely. No place for it in our game. Hopefully the authorities can speak to witnesses or those on the receiving end and get the facts.

I get that but as Rob has said I think in this context then all signs point to it being as abhorrent as it looks.

I don't for a second think that Newy is downplaying this as some are suggesting. Only the most horrible racist would do that, which isn't Newy.

The video clearly shows what is extremely likely to be disgusting and intolerable behaviour. Rather than bickering on here, I think what would be really useful would be to hear from the club on what they are doing to look into this, assuming as they were tagged in the tweet, that they are aware.

Clearly they cannot solve it themselves but I would expect them to be on the phone with Leicester staff and police to get this looked into and to offer fans reassurance that they will take this incredibly seriously once more is known.

Like Specky said, this should be given the utmost importance and I would even say that Gibson himself, as the owner of the club should give a clear statement that this behaviour won't be tolerated at our club.

It's really positive to hear how strongly any form of racism is being condemned on here and people are right that we have to take a visibly harsh stance on it. Sadly I don't think football clubs have always done that
