Boro fan recorded making racist gesture at Leicester

Education is needed on that if nothing else.

I’ll repeat again.. the club needs to be more visible in its anti racist stance.. it is very easy to do and what we are currently doing is not cutting it.
I honestly think we should start taking the knee from next season, I'm sick of hearing scum in our own stands booing opposition teams doing it. It visibly upsets my son who is a wee bit on the spectrum, and he cannot comprehend why football fans with a team containing various races would boo an anti racism gesture.

It was clearly a back and forth between the two sets of fans.. the kid didn’t say anything racist.

It hasn’t been found that the woman was being racist either..

Hopefully this can be fully investigated and the correct punishment applied if there has been wrongdoing.
I understand your point of view and it’s true we don’t know the full circumstances. However, making a monkey gesture is widely known to have racist tendencies. To suggest otherwise is just wrong.

If course it’s racist she shouts the insult twice whilst doing the gesture to suggest otherwise is preposterous.

From a Leicester fan account

There was a video on here a few years ago of a bloke doing the same thing and he was being defended because apparently ‘he was saying that whoever he was gesturing to are “the pits” because he was pointing to his armpits.’ And it’s a common gesture amongst fans. 🤷🏻‍♂️

[Edit] I see North22 has referenced this incident on page 2.

The club need to make the strongest possible statement of where they stand on racism. Firstly, lifetime ban for this pond life. Secondly, reinstate the knee gesture for the team. I understand why our previous black captain withdrew our participation on the grounds that it's a token gesture. But all gestures are tokens. And not taking the knee emboldens that repulsive section of our fan base to reason that 'we don't do that here' and boo teams that do. Taking the knee would be the clearest message to the racists: it's you who are different and you who are not welcome anywhere near this club.

100% agree.

I’d love to send racist people to other countries, to make them see how wonderful other people are. The world is full of brilliant cultures and people. We’re all human.

Believe it or not.. not all people associate ‘the monkey gesture’ with racism.. some people associate it with someone looking or acting like a monkey.

She is clearly reacting to another fan or fans.. ‘fat ugly basterd’ etc etc.. looks like a fan checks to see who she is shouting at lol

The kids do the shhhh and one says f**k off
Some other woman pipes in and jeers.

The only question is.. was that Leicester City fan black..

Because Olive won’t be going to anymore boro matches if he was.

What’s with the black and white scarf as well?

This is an incredible take.

I can read fine thanks what I can’t understand is after making light of the vile sunlun chants you are now seemingly down playing openly racist gestures.

Hence my original post.
Jedi.. it’s clear that you are a Doyle.

Yet again you are frothing at the mouth wanting to be top of the pile on.. playing top trumps with the worst possible punishment.. to prove you are the most just.. the king of the righteous ones!

‘Seemingly down playing’ - well if it seems like something or it MIGHT be something then it 100% MUST be that. Especially if YOU have thought it. Cast Iron.

If that gesture was aimed at a black fan then there is no question that this woman should be banned from all future boro games.

Does my fcking head in that I have to even say that sort of stuff on here.. because divvies like you want to twist and turn stuff into something it is not.

Even if the woman is found not to be guilty of making a racist gesture.. education needs to be there.. visibility needs to be there.. like I have said time and time again.

Have you even considered that YOUR actions on here could be more detrimental than the actions of the fan in the video?

Because.. if she wasn’t making that gesture towards a black fan.. then EVERYTHING is racist and it lessens any anti-racism message and it emboldens those with racist views.

Take a breath and just think ffs.

Remember this 😲

That was a different gesture altogether and he was cleared of any wrongdoing. What he said he was doing was patting near his armpit with the opposite hand, something that was common some years back and meant you were the pits.

What this woman is doing is clearly a racist gesture towards an opposition fan. She should be dealt with appropriately.

I'd like her to meet some of our own fans, face to face, and say to her “go on then, do that again and let's see what happens now, eh?! “

I think we are too far gone with that for it not to mean anything credible or meaningful.

I do think 100% that we should be more visable in our anti-racist stance.. but it seems the club are not particularly well advised in this area and choose to bury their heads or paper the cracks with meaningless gimmicks that are so far wide of the mark.

Yet again, the same poster tries to defend and deflect from the indefensible.
This is definitely an emotive topic, but I’m not sure that Newy is trying to downplay the indefensible (by which I presume you mean racism). I think he is saying there’s a small chance this might not be a racist incident and an investigation should be thoroughly conducted before a pile on is started.

I’ve already stated my opinion based on my first impression earlier - appears racist and disgusting. Hopefully the police and football club now deal with this swiftly.
