It’s Cattermole

Gibson seems a stubborn b***r to me, the vitriol towards Cattermole and Agnew probably means he’s more likely to appoint one or both. If it’s Lee, wouldn’t be my choice, but I’ll let him have at least a few games before chucking in the towel!

This was 35 years ago. Yes he saved the club, yes he’s bankrolled it since and brought the good times, but they ended in 2006.

People are entitled to question his decisions and the fact that an ex player with a poor off pitch record and a pretty bland career, with little to no coaching experience let alone managerial experience, is being tasked with dragging this powder puff team away from relegation, deserves questioning at the very least.

It was a response to poundshop chairman. He’s anything but. I’m not saying no criticism

My point was, nobody knew how much money Robbo was promised before he was given the job, although I understand Lee Cattermole will be given nowhere near the amount Robbo was.
I’m not sure why that’s relevant really or that’s it’s even true. We knew about Gibson gaining control, about the stadium and the promises Gibson had made to Robson.

We were in a completely different stage of development and Robbo was still miles ahead of where Catrermole is.

There’s no comparison really.

Football has moved on massively since the days of Robson. Gibson’s millions meant he could financially compete then. Its a billionaires playground now where Gibson cannot compete financially.

He lives off what he did previously. The football has been poor (minus a few seasons) since 2006 which is 16 years ago. He used to give managers time and was well respected for this, now he sacks managers every year when they don’t bring success. Perhaps the manager isn’t the problem?

It’s a poundshop appointment though.

It’s not an appointment through, is it.
It’s just a load of guesswork speculation that actually makes no sense whatsoever.
Why would they give the job to someone who is currently not even heading up the caretaker coaching team? He’s down the pecking order in the set up that is currently in place. It’s nuts to think he’s going to then be propelled above those currently above him, to the top job.
IMO.

Maybe in the future, but not now.

Gibson won't be put off by Cattermole's age. He was not much older when he became Boro chairman and signed Bryan Robson. And he was even younger than Cattermole during the consortium takeover in 86.

But I wonder how Keiran Scott sees it, if true.
I’d imagine he’ll be all for it since he’ll be able to fully pull the strings on the recruitment front. He’ll also not get the boot if it all goes horribly wrong since Cattermole will be made the scapegoat not him. I initially thought suggesting Leo or Lee was a ploy to get support back for his mate Edwards which I was completely against. Now with Hobsons choice I’d be all for Edwards. Win Win Kieran.

You can’t say it’s definitely not happening though, can you? So you shooting down the speculation is also just guesswork.

It is nuts to think he’s going to be manager, I agree. That’s the problem.

Yep, that’s a fair point.
I just can’t accept that after interviewing upwards of a dozen candidates they’ll pick a young lad who has only just started his coaching journey and who isn’t even prominent in the current caretaker coaching set up.

Do you not remember Woodgate’s appointment? Apparently we’d searched high and low, interviewed Slavisa Jokanovic and Woodgate was the ‘outstanding candidate’….

I don’t see how you can’t see it being a possibility.

Thread 'Dwight Gayle' https://fmttmboro.com/index.php?threads/dwight-gayle.33607/

Uncle Rico has form for making things up, this was his last exclusive when he had it on 'good authority' that Dwight Gayle was signing.
I thought he was.. didn’t Steve Gibson step
In to stop the deal. The boro Twitter even mentioned him in a cryptic tweet that was swiftly deleted. Wilder wanted Gayle, McGoldrick and Naismith and we bought Forss, Hoppe & Clarke

Maybe we were going to bring in Rob Edwards but Gibson stepped in? If we’re gonna have a young un.. we might as well have one of our own! I heard the Watford lads just didn’t listen to Rob Edwards.. can’t imagine our players not listening to Lee Cattermole.

Do you remember when we were riding high on the back of European final and about to appoint a manager from the very top drawer?

Gibson appointed a complete rookie from within.
