It’s Cattermole

No way Leo would agree to be an assistant to Cattermole. After his press conference yesterday I think he would believe he should be the number 1 if it was a choice between the two.

I don't believe this one bit.

Seemed enough for Gibson to **** himself last time he thought we were going there. Imho a spell in league one might be the complete reset we need, bigger clubs than us have been there and come back stronger. We’ve even done it ourselves twice!
What some of these clubs did though was gp into administration and wipe out their pre existing debt eg Leicester, Leeds and Southampton. Not sure this is how I would want Boro to turn themselves around now (1986 was enough) like Derby seem to be attempting.

Can't Gibbo just do that anyway?

The club only owes him doesn't it?

If Gibson O'Neil write off the £115 million we're in the clear?

There's no external financing or money owed to HMRC etc. So we would just owe Gibbo and whatever football debts we have outstanding on transfers.

I'm guessing, @indeedido will be able to offer more insight I'm sure.

Do you not remember Woodgate’s appointment? Apparently we’d searched high and low, interviewed Slavisa Jokanovic and Woodgate was the ‘outstanding candidate’….

I don’t see how you can’t see it being a possibility.

We weren’t a quarter of the way through the season and flirting with a serious relegation battle.

If it happens I will be extremely surprised, shocked, disillusioned and downright angry. But I’ll still get behind him.
At the moment though, I think we are all expending a lot of energy and anger on something that isn’t going to happen. If it does, hands up I’ve got it completely wrong. Until then, I’ll not be fretting over Cattermole getting the gig.

I don’t think we will
Just feels like the wrong decision for me Newy. I liked him a lot when he was a player for us but the lad is only 34, how long has he been coaching? It’s a massive jump. We’ve been burned before doing stuff like this.

Will obviously be behind whoever gets given the job but, and considering I’m usually quite the optimist, I’m not hopeful.

Hope they prove me wrong!

He started coaching with VVV-Venlo 2019/20 season when he was doing his badges.
2020/21, 2021/22 with us and obviously still here this season 2022/23 where he’s made a step up.

He was appointed January 22 with us wasn't he?

Just Googling, he was there voluntarily the year before, I assume you have to be actively coaching to get signed off on the practical bits of your UEFA licences?

voluntarily is still actively coaching..

Fair comment mate. I think people (myself included) are fretting because the longer it goes on without an announcement the more likely the other options (Carrick, Wolf, and errr… that’s about it) won’t be coming and that only seems to leave Cattermole/Leo and the rest of the promoted from within gang.

Maybe, but I personally can't see a single benefit, not even close.

I'm slightly cautious about the cattermole rumours, because none of this is official and it could just be nonsense, but if he is appointed it would a a spectacularly risky decision and one I cannot fathom, whichever way I look at it.

He may make a good manager at some point, but has has literally no experience. If Hartlepool, for example, announced he was taking over there I would see it as an intersting, but risky appointment, but at a club at this level, with our resources, it makes no sense whatsoever.

You are spot on.

Gibson loves everyone to think he has covered the debt he has created. He has only covered it if he actually writes it off by converting that debt to equity. If he does that, then the club immediately has value to a potential buyer who might even pay him something for his equity, which would be fair.

The problem is that Gibson believes only he can actually run the club and that he has a life long entitlement to do so.
He is addicted to the adulation and will never want to lose the power.
He will only sell the club if he comes out financially covered, but he has made such a mess of the club nobody will take it off his hands in its current state, let alone buy it, let alone keep him involved.

We had a terrible time in 1986 until Henderson, Fordy and Moskowitz saved the club. We rose very quickly, debt free, under new ownership. That was with trivial debt in today's football world.
A number of other clubs have done this and currently sit in the PL.
Derby will pass us in the near future.

If the only person impacted is Steve Gibson, from him writing the debt to self off, then there seems some justice.
He would perhaps then ride off having ACTUALLY put the money into the club that people think he has, ACTUALLY paying for the ramifications of the mistakes of his leadership since 2006.

Don't hold your breath.
But no worries, Katie will ride into the rescue after Dad fairly shortly. Won't that be special...
