Central Middlesbrough & Parliament Road

I was up Parliament and Linthorpe Road for the first time in years just a few weeks ago, my word it is an absolute cesspit isn't it? It seems unrecognisable from anything I remember as a kid growing up in Middlesbrough. It feels like a foreign country to me. The place is full of litter, graffiti and I am sure the crime levels are a lot worse too. I am keeping myself away from the town as much as I can from now on.

I always used to walk along there to And from ayresome park as a nipper.

Often in the dark and didn't even blink.

Imagine that we still played there?

The biggest problem in that area are the indigenous drug users.
Yet many try and blame the migrants , many of whom are just trying to get by.
Some people seem intimidated/offended when they hear a foreign accent.
I walk there often don't feel any less safe than you would in any low income area housing the poorest in society.
Litter seems to be a major problem in that area
I agree with you that the drug users and pushers are the main problem. However your point about them being “indigenous” seems very questionable to me. The sad fact is just as there are good responsible people of every ethnicity, there are scum and drug pushers of every ethnicity too. Drug pushing is drug pushing, “indigenous” doesn’t even come in to it.

Rob will be along shortly to tell us what a nice area it is and how the Sun have got it all wrong. Why Rob will even walk around at night it's that safe.

Or will he?
Why do you pick on Rob when anything goes wrong in Boro?? ROB is a great ambassador for our unbelievable Teesside and his overwhelming support for Boro is second to none!
Maybe we suggest or campaign for a Rob Nichols statue at the Stadium?

Very sad. The town is one of the worst parts of the Teesside area it represents.

Central government have been starving local authorities of cash for the last 12 years and more deprived areas have seen bigger cuts than well heeled ones. Consequently, local councils can no longer afford basic upkeep like pavement cleaning. Once, you would see cleaners with big dalek like machines, scrubbing the pavements of Linthorpe Rd and the surrounding streets but I haven't seen one of those for years.

Not picking on anyone, don't be so sensitive!

Rob has defended the area previously so I'm inviting him to do so again in light of further news of the area.

If you want a statue of Rob go ahead and arrange it!

It infuriates me when local politicians pose for photos and actively encourage refurb of those street houses in and around Gresham. There needs to be serious slum clearance and regeneration on a massive scale in every town and city in this country. Rows and rows of densely packed and poorly insulated are not fit for 21st century living and do not fit in with our net zero targets.

What exactly are you trying to say by this post?

That the clientel that visit Albert Park and Stewart Park are completely different. Completely different areas of the town i guess and on the door step of parly road

Dont get me wrong They have just as much right to use the park as people from linthorpe, grove hill or the longlands

My observation/comment was English speaking people within the fair were in the minority on a busy Saturday afternoon

Left TS1(one of the roads off Parli road) a couple of years ago and some of the stuff I witnessed before leaving was incredible. Looked out the window one day because I heard some shouting outside, a lad went zipping past with a golf club in his hand, quickly followed by someone chasing him with a machete. Windows getting put through regularly, neighbours car tyres got slashed and not just on the sly either, they stood there and slashed them as my neighbour was watching, they didn't care at all.

When I was younger I'd walk home from town at night in that area and even then people said I was mad but I never ever felt at risk, I wouldn't dream of doing that now. The last couple of years there I wouldn't even wear my headphones when I was walking about because it felt like you needed to be aware of what was going on at all times. I think there was an article in the Gazette not long ago that said it had the 9th highest crime rate in the UK, absolutely mental.

My parents got out of there last year too thankfully, they're the last people out of all my family, mates and even parents of mates to leave the area.
Exactly the same experience as me mate. It’s sad to go down there now and see some of the old faces who I grew up with having to experience what it’s turned into.

Speak to one of the barbers on Parli Road quite regularly and they can’t wait to retire.

Thanks for your support Mitch

You mean they weren't white don't you? Many of those people could be second or even third generation Middlesbrough. They live in Longlands, Ayresome, Grove Hill and Park area.
Maybe the people you saw are more community orientated.

The only reason i used to visit parly road was to get a yk chow ... since that got a zero rating its an area of town i wouldnt dream of going down now.

Just going in the betting shop to get a footy coupon was intimidating at times whilst picking up the chinese. You shouldnt be made to feel vulnerable in your home town. Probably one of the reasons said takeaway reduced their opening hours

For the record i wasnt referring to the colour of peoples skins, more the multi nationalities that were using the park
