It's the hype surrounding Spence. In the game against Arsenal, he showed he could mix it with Top flight players. Jones is a slow starter, it's his breakthrough season. Spence was ready and a regular @ 18 because of his size, he's got been playing at champ level for over 2 seasons now. Give Jones another season or two and the top-flight clubs will be sniffing around him. I think if we get anything less than £20m for Spence, we would be getting ripped off. My view is he's worth 20 / 25m plus 10-15% sell on cut.
He didn't play when he was 18, that was the 18/19 season, he's 21 now, in the 21/22 season. He was a regular for us at 19 (the second half of the 19/20 season), and a regular at 20, but not one of the key players in a side which was also not performing great, most were on his back I seem to remember (I wasn't mind).
Jones is pretty much already one of our best players in a much better side (he's our no 1 threat imo, or where our threat originates anyway), and has only really played this year, since Wilder.
As for Spence, to look at the Leicester game objectively (admittedly did not see full game, just 10 mins of highlights):
Him being caught the wrong side of his man, which Leicester failed to capitalise on
Him mis-controlling it just before Forests first goal, but was good positioning
No part in Forests second goal, which came from the left
No part in key chance before the third goal, which came from the left, or the goal itself which came from a corner)
Missed a relatively easy chance
Went to double press a Leicester player, which led to the guy behind him and another being unmarked, which ended up being the assist for Leicester's goal
Good run and one two for his goal, when Leicester were taking some risks trying to get back into the game, being 3-1 down away
Key thing for me, is that in most of Leicester's chances, he was never in shot, and for most of Forests chances he wasn't in shot either?
I don't get where the hype comes from, other than his hairstyle standing out, and can't see where the 20m tag comes from either, especially now?
I'm not saying he's a bad player, far, far from it, but I don't see how he's proven to be a good player. He has scope for further development of course, but hasn't featured at all for the U-21's etc.
It's annoying that him and Jones have similar positions, but from what I've seen, I'd pick Jones 100/100, and I don't think we would even get 20m for Jones, if he wanted to go.
Great news on Spence's contract extension though, maybe Wilder will find a way to get them both in the same side next year, whatever league we're in.
