Defence Decimated

loaning Wood out now looks terrible but had we had no injuries he'd be sat on the bench again or worse.

Kokolo at least must play tomorrow now you'd have thought.
But who plays RB? Howson? Cain Sykes?

I guess he could go 3 at the back - McNair, Howson, Bamba and have Jones and Tav as wing backs.

There are a lot of balancing acts this season.

Clearly the balance is wrong, too many midfielders and not enough defenders. The fans could see it as soon as the window closed. A major clanger by the club especially when crocks like ameobi are signed and taking a place in the squad.

We know that Hayden Coulson was determined to leave for regular first team action and we think Nathan Wood's agent advised him similarly. With finances being so tight post COVID and that limit on first team squad numbers there are a great deal of balancing acts. For instance we cannot put more youngsters on the bench because they would have to be registered and we would have to fill those two remaining places in the maximum number of registered senior players. That would not allow us to bring anyone in on loan.

How are er getting on with looking at loan players or out of contract. Surely this is an emergency situation where we need to be looking at bringing somebody else in?

Wing backs it is then, Jones left and Tavernier right. Paddy is decent in a three and Howson did ok there under Woody. We also have plenty of midfielders now. Sporar and Uche up top together? Don't forget we are playing Peterborough not Man City
Can I ask who you are referring to when you say we have plenty of midfielders? If you take Howson and Tav out for defensive duties it doesn't leave too much from where I'm looking. Sivi and Payero if fit are returning from long distance so unlikely to hit the ground running.

Before we signed Bamba, we had 3 centre backs. One (Mcnair) is a player who doesnt have a natural position and certainly isnt a centre back. The amount of mistakes he makes is very poor. If i was Wood and behind him and Bamba in the pecking order i wouldn't be happy at all. It was obvious we wouldnt get through a season without the odd injury at the back. Even if he did want to play Mcnair, Hall and Fry, Wood should have been the next inline.

Fair enough if we bought a good, fit centre back to come into the first team but we didn't.

don't agree on McNair as a CB, he was very good there last season but he hasn't been at this level so far this year. problem for me is he plays better in a 3 at the back but the players we have suit a 4 better.

I personally would have rather had Wood more involved than brought Bamba in, but once he is here, Wood's opportunities were always going to be limited.
