Fuel shortage

I've got 190 miles or so left so I should be able to ride out the madness just like I did the Covid panic buying.
Strangely enough, I filled up in the Lakes last week just as the initial BP announcement came on the radio. There were queues at that point, not for fuel, but for the cashpoint as their card processing had gone down. Never seen so many people trying to remember their pin number 😛
I suppose in microcosm, panic buying like this will become the norm as the effects of Brexit ripple through the supply chain of everything. Nike have announced something about shortages so no doubt they'll be flying off the shelves soon enough.
It's no wonder we are killing the planet when the selfish 'survival of the fattest' kicks in so easily.

The massage on the BBC News last Thursday was, "no fuel shortage, no need to panic buy", then they show 3 or 4 video clips of motorists queuing round the block, or being turned away from fuel stations. What message does that send?

Out on the Bonneville this morning.
The only garage locally with no massive queues only had super unleaded left in two pumps. No normal unleaded or diesel left at all. Sheer madness, exacerbated by scaremongering journalism. grrrr

I could have done with that 👍

I only use super unleaded (my car maker says I should). I'm not sure if it's a swizz lol.

It sends the message that people were ignoring the request not to panic buy. They're simply reporting the news as it happens. If it's propaganda you're after I can recommend GB News and 'the usual' newspapers.

update from kent is that 7 petrol stations completely ran out in my town yesterday. Queues were mad. I'm expecting the roads to be fairly empty today as people conserve fuel
Omg you live in Kent - was at a wedding there yesterday and if petrol hasn’t run out the higehhst price I saw was 1.47 - daylight robbery.

Filled up fine this morning, could have picked a number of pumps to use, no problems

The general public have caused the chaos

Maybe they should know better that to say ' Please don't panic'

Radio 2 have had a news report, a spokesman for the independent fuel retailers said his members are running out. So all the big retailers aren’t. That’s like the corner shop having no milk while Tesco is full.

Just past the Tesco garage at Coulby, looks like a normal Sunday.
You do realise that droves of FMTTMers are currently en route there to drain every last drop.

Wrong. Tesco at Ingleby Barwick ran out yesterday and won't be open again until midnight tonight.

Whilst everyone has their knickers in a knot about petrol and the price of gas to heat their homes imagine if your home heating fuel doubled in price in a year and there was no price cap .......................................

Ta, daaaaaa 🎶 .......................

So twenty four hours.😀
So did coulby, diesel only last night, normal now. Might be gone by tomorrow of course.
I was pointing out that your suggestion that this has only affected small retailers isn't the case. That said however the current situation is first and foremost down to numbnuts with no reason whatsoever to fill up all tooling up at their local petrol station all at the same time, pillocks.

When the furnace was shut by Chorus Government intervention was not allowed ( Vera Baird lost her seat as a consequence) because of EU regulations, the EU would only intervene if those laws were broken.
It was mentioned earlier, but just to stress - what you have posted here about EU regulations is a complete untruth. It is a choice of the UK government to provide support or not, people repeating lies like this is why we are where we are.

To quote the actual UK government, "where a company is of strategic importance and all other options have been exhausted, the government may consider providing bespoke support. This is a capability that the government has had for many years"
