A Week Today Boris will Outline Lockdown Exit Strategy

They jabbed the health care workers ?

How difficult would it have been to do the teachers ?
But then you roll out jabs for the teachers and the Police then complain that they've been overlooked, then the shopworkers will say they've been working through out, then the bus drivers....... ad infinitum.

I agree, I get that we need to get kids back in to school but sending them back for 3 weeks and then having a 2 week break seems nonsensical. Why not take advantage of the early Easter, better weather and ensure everything is in place for a secure and safe return rather than a rushed not quite 2 weeks notice as promised return. I get that a lot of parents are suffering with home schooling but surely an extra 3 weeks of pain is tolerable for most?
But then you will get people saying kids need to be back, they've missed out, their mental health is suffering.

This thread I guess sums up the conundrum we are trying to deal with here. Whatever they do someone will not be happy

Anyway... what will happen is it will spread in schools and then they will bring it home to parents. Infection rates will go up as kids and younger parents aren't vaccinated.
it's not even younger parents, I'm 49 my kids will go back and it'll probably be another 2-3 months until I get vaccinated. It's unacceptable.

We still have another 3 weeks of good declines before the kids go back on the 8th, if we keep up the 25% reductions that's down to 4k cases by then, numbers which we've not had since mid-September.
We won't keep up 25% reduction when kids are back to school. As you pointed out we haven't even started to vaccinate the 20s, 30s and 40s the parents of those kids.

o be fair we've not even fully vaccinated 1% of the country yet.
It's a big concern that they will stop at 1st jab to everyone over 50, then second jab all over 50 before starting on those under 50. I'm gonna be in limbo until I reach my 50th birthday clearly

What’s the point of announcements and briefings when it all gets leaked in advance?

SKY news are all over it today, who leaks this stuff?
It's not leaked as such, they are giving it to the press on purpose, it's planed this way. It is so they can gauge reaction across social media platforms and prepare their defence.

Nope, nothing to hang on for. Been told the exact same thing for the past 12 months, hang on in there it's over soon. Well sorry that's just b***ks. We were told vaccine was the way out. Turns out it isn't.

Furlough more than likely been extended until after summer. Tells you all you need to know.
I didn’t say it would be over soon. Also vaccines ARE part of the answer. Just with 0.92% of the population fully vaccinated it’s obviously too soon to think about that

Teachers are probably the only profession that are working in an environment that you cant distance from others, yes other places have been working throughout but they are in much more covid safe environments than schools

Or you could say that 26% of the entire population have had a vaccination and developing anti bodies ~85% effectiveness

If I was a teacher there is no way I'd be going back into a classroom with 30 little super spreaders if I hadn't been vaccinated.

Not all 'young' people who catch covid are fine, long covid seems to be a massive issue for lots of people.

I'd imagine it's the same risk, but like what has been said time and time again by the Gov, there will be lots of little 'what ifs' like this but it is what it is. There isn't enough time to think of EVERY connotation of releasing lockdown and the way people mix and make thousands of rules for every sport etc. We just have to suck it up for a few weeks then we can all play golf again if we want.

Isn't that exactly what they've done though? You can exercise with one person outdoors but they've explicitly ruled out golf and tennis as types of exercise. These sports aren't caught in a catch all, the government has gone to the effort to single them out in a "what if" scenario.

So their excuse of they can't cover every eventuality as to why these sports are banned doesn't wash for me.

It's been like this since the first easing of lockdown back in summer. Why can't we meet one grandparent when both grandparents live together etc - oddities of lockdown easing.

It is what it is, there is nothing we can do about it so I'm not getting too angry about it.

Of course, not per week, but I'm thinking from March the 8th we're effectively back to the similar 4-week lockdown we had in November to December. There was still a 40% reduction over that month (with schools open) so about 10% per week, which would be fair to assume is achievable still.

But I would say that 10% is at least, because:

Since November we've already had 3m more cases which we have detected, and vaccinated about 23m people
So the way I'm reading that is by the 8th we will have near enough 40% immunity (assuming say 23m vaccinated and an extra 7m having had the virus in total, which is probably low ball), it's not enough for herd immunity but it's enough to suppress the R quite drastically (but this may be offset by new variants)
It's not approaching Christmas, where people were shopping more even in supermarkets
It's getting warmer, not colder, people spending more time outside, rather than inside
We will be starting from near 6k cases, rather than 20k cases
We test 600k per day now, rather than 300k in November
A month later that's another 12m vaccinated, which gets us up to 60% immunity

Obviously very quick fag packet numbers there, but the idea seems reasonable. I know the vaccine isn't 100% immunity before anyone pipes up, but to counter that I think we're probably more like 50% over that 7m that I said had already been infected, and I know some of the vaccinated will have already had it. 30m for vaccines and infections seems reasonable for by the 8th.

Based on all that I can still see us reducing 15% week on week with schools open, so a month after the 8th, by April the 8th we may even be down to 3k cases per day.

Even I don't think the Tories can mess this up now, but let's see what Boris says 🥵

I don't disagree that there's nothing we can do and we just have to suck it up.

I'm just pointing out that the government's excuse of "we can make a long list of exceptions" when it comes to why golf and tennis isn't allowed is nonsense because the only reason they're not allowed is because the government have specifically singled them out.

If they'd just left it as "you can exercise with one other person outdoors" then they'd be allowed with no further input or clarification from the government required. So they've done exactly what they claim they can't do by going into detail, but just to ban these sports rather than allow them.

So, I wasn't far off with the timings, lets see how the numbers pan out

Rough details of de-restricting:
8th March, schools open, meet one other outside for recreation
29th March, meeting outside for two households or six people
12 April Shops, Hairdressers and Beer gardens
?? Pubs and restaurants inside?
21 Jun end of all restrictions

Add a month on to every one of those dates as the usual will **** themselves when cases creep up a little after the schools open.

21 June? Yeah right o.

21st June that's around the time the Premier league fixtures will be announced as well.

Cmon Randy you never know, on that Monday you could back at work with the pub open as normal and looking forward to the Boro welcoming the champions Man City to a packed Riverside in August.

Randy, thousands of people died as a result of cases creeping up after schools reopened.
