Does anybody have a view as to whether Ethereum Crypto Currency is worth buying? I see it has gone up by almost 500% in the last 12 months but is still quite low compared to a BitCoin.

If you fancy that flutter go for it. It’s a reflection on the turbulent markets that we see investors ploughing into Crypto. Personally at my stage in life wouldn’t want to take the risk.

Remember investments can go down as well as up

It went up to $1200 about 3 years ago, dropped all the way down to sub $200 before it’s recent rises over the last few months, as is the way with Crypto. You would be buying at the top end of the market if you bought now, so it would be a no from me.

PS: Bitcoin will always be streets ahead of other crypto currencies on a price per coin basis and that is not the way to compare them. It’s all about market cap against the coins in circulation allied to the business case of what their technology is achieving in the real world, and ETHEREUM are right up there with the very best.

Your guess is as good as anyone's.

If you look at these things there is a clear cycle: All time high, crash, repeat. The returns that make these attractive "investments" (they're not investments) are, in the case of bitcoin, the result of manipulation rather than "adoption" or "institutional investment" as is claimed.

However you can make money if you are able to time your purchase and sale. And each cycle brings with it a higher high and a higher bottom. The long term trend has been upwards.

One day however we will see the final pump and dump, and it will not rebound. You dont want to be left holding the bag.

Or maybe its going to go to 1 million a coin and i'm overlooking some amazing technology that requires bitcoin specifically.

Ok, thanks for clarifying the terminology. I see it's up 15% today and researching it they say it's a lot faster as crunching transactions than Bitcoin and has a new BlockChain about to be released soon to replace the old one so could be on the up.

It’s current price will already reflect anything that is imminent.

Thanks for the info, maybe I'll just keep a watch for now.

Yes, just trying to find the next Tesla investment since unfortunately I missed out on that one.

I have a modest holding of the above mentioned cryptos back from 2017... It's hard because I could cash out substantial profit at this point but then you feel like you're missing out later so beware it's an addictive 'gamble'.

What people don’t tell you is that once you’ve bought in, and because of the roller coaster ride that you get with the coin values, you end up constantly checking the prices and at times it takes over your life, which was why I ended up bailing out as soon as I made a reasonable % profit. It does do your head in.

Exactly. because it is a turbulent investment you treat it as a punt not an investment and constantly check prices.

There's a group of Stanford Phd's who are attempting to start a new crypto currency. It's called Pi and is app based. It's not worth anything yet but the plan is to launch it this year.

This company is not A currency but rather they mine bit coins - they buy super computers to help them do this. They found 96 bitcoins last month - there share price is obviously linked to bit coin value but may be worth a punt. They went up more than 600percent in the last year.

Did anyone look at this I think it’s gone up about 30per cent since I mentioned it yesterday.

Ethereum is flying up at the minute and once the tech is developed further to increase it transaction speed it's price could go through the roof. It might seem expensive at $1000 but it could genuinely in a few years be worth $100000. Mine has gone up by £35000 in 2 months
