Spain back on the UK banned travel list

OK Thanks. We are looking at options but none are looking too promising at the moment. Worst case scenario is we lose all the money and money is just money. Gonna break my little girl's heart, which is the worst bit. Feeling an emotional response to it all at the moment, so I'll leave it there.

Hope you get it sorted Pete. I've just been through everything for our booking, and I can cancel everything except the flights. I did book recently, though, so I knew the risks, and had some idea this might happen.
Did you book insurance at the time of your original booking? If so, you may well be covered for the fact that you will be forced to cancel due to the pandemic.

Decent result Tommo - you guys must be gutted

One of the strictest national lockdowns in the world followed by localised lockdowns.
Mandatory mask use.
Mandatory glove use in shops.

🤔
But rules ignored by Brits when they started coming over. Also ignored by young Spaniards in the big cities (Madrid, Barcelona, Zaragoza) who think it’ll never happen to them - the infections being reported this time are primarily that group.

The irony of course is that your still much much more likely to catch the virus in the U.K. than bring it back from Spain.

the problem is the number of foreigners coming in to Spain that aren't following the rules while hammered.

What’s the difference staying in a plague infested country and travelling to one.

What’s the difference between taking a flight to Spain or a train journey to Cornwall?
Well travelling to any tourism zone is high risk, due to numbers, people relaxing on 'holiday', but travelling to an international tourism are is really really risky as you are subjecting yourself to a bigger network of people.

If you booked your holiday before March, then I would think companies would be lenient on people coming back and having to quarantine. If you booked it after that then you can't expect sympathy or paid leave. You know the risks

The company I work for were advising us that if we chose to go abroad and then had to quarantine it would be holidays or unpaid time off. Didn't matter when the holiday was booked. That's a fairly large NE company. If that's their thinking then I'd imagine lots will do to.

We went to the plage last night and usually spend around 3hrs there. We must have spent 30 mins in total, we got an ice cream and walked back to the car.

The social distancing was very poor and the lack of masks between the 15 - 30 year olds was unbelievable. The bars and restaurants had done their best by spacing every one out, with plenty of room between tables, but It was the younger people putting everyone at risk. There was groups of young lads and lasses milling about the streets and a lot more people than usual. Thus is something we have only seen in the past when the Fete is on. It was easy to see how spikes in holiday places are taking place.

We moved off and went to a bar in the local village.

Our holiday is in our caravan for 6 weeks and we are normally in our own little bubble in any case. Neither of us could or can still see an issue with holidaying abroad. We will think hard before returning for a night out at the plage and will just adapt our holiday to suit.

By the same token you could get a train to France.
Given that it is self policed anyway what is the point? If you are going to try and get round it by driving to France you might as well fly back from Spain and not quarantine at all - whichever way is against the whole point of the change in policy.

I have zero sympathy for people went or are going on holiday.. I travel a lot but decided to not bother this year, as you just don't know what is around the corner. So tough t*ts

That's a very supportive attitude. I hope you apply to every risk area of life.

You only get one go at life and no one knows what is round the corner. If we all lived life in our little containment, then life would be a sad place with no one trying anything new. You are just as likely to catch it at home than abroad. I’m in France for the summer, if I have to self isolate on my return, then so be it.
We all received the nod to travel and countries welcomed us with open arms. The goal posts have moved slightly since then and we will deal with it.

i try new stuff all the time.. I wouldn't call "popping to Spain for a 2 week holiday" trying something new...but would I travel now? no and if I did, would I be in the news moaning about it? no as you take your chances, you have to deal with the consequences.

For the sanctimonious on this thread we have to assume you are consigned to being indoors all the time in the UK until this is over.
the sanctimoniousness seems to be coming from you. Some of us are just more risk averse than others.
