From midnight any arrivals have to quarantine for 14 days. Announcement imminent acc to Sunday Times Tim Shipman

Yeah - big news that. Going to catch a load of people out who will want to return to work.
Just wonder what companies are going to do about paying them?
After all - they were cleared to travel

Our company have said anybody needing to quarantine after holiday will need to use annual holidays 😐

And if you have used up all your annual leave you get money docked?

Suspect it will be unpaid leave

We were supposed to spend a night in St Sebastian for our 35th wedding anniversary before travelling back from Santander.
Thankfully changed plans just before we got to france and move to the Portsmouth Caen route.

Absolutely gutted. We are due to fly out in just over two weeks time. I can't quarantine for two weeks on return, as I have to return to teaching about ten days after. Can't imagine Ryan Air refunding flights and not sure what the owner of our accommodation will say.

When did you book your flights petrio?

Bit of a gamble booking anywhere out of the country at the moment I would say. I've just decided not to bother this year due to continuing uncertainty.

Hope you get your money back mate.

Last year.

Well if you decide to put yourself and colleagues in danger, should the company pay for that?
It's taken the government months to make up its mind about face coverings but they can make a decision like this with a click of the fingers?

You are argumentative tonight. There was no danger as the government allowed travel.
Much like you or anyone else going to the pub, a beach or a restaurant in the UK.

On a separate note we’ve decided to pay people if they have to quarantine on returning from Spain.
I am, yes.

We all know that this isn't going away, we all know there is danger travelling, personally I've forgone travel until further notice, knuckle down, get on with some work, have a pint and wait for ti to blow over. If people want to take the risk of booking holidays, they have to take the risk of complications and any adverse issues of that, be it illness, unpaid leave, stuck abroad for months etc. If we take the old norm for granted we'll be in for a shock. It's crap, but it it what it is

What if you booked before all this started? I had flights to the UK booked for the end of August. Fortunately Air France canceled them.......

Why are people flying to Spain? We have had two holidays a year overseas, often to Spain for the last 30 years but ruled out leaving the UK this year as soon as the extent of the pandemic became obvious. The risks are so high and it isn’t a holiday to visit other plague infested countries where we have to live inside masks with exceptionally limited freedoms. I get people were desperate for a few weeks in the sun but it is a huge risk in so many ways and a reintroduction of quarantine on return was bound to happen and needed to be factored into your decision making. Unless you had 4 weeks holiday leave available you should expect your company to not automatically give you a couple of extra weeks off because you chose to visit Spain. Time people faced consequences of their decision making.
