Spain back on the UK banned travel list

People returning from Spain are being. asked to fill in an in flight quarantine form.
Address where you are resident, all the usual stuff.
On landing there's nobody collecting the forms. Walk through and out of the door.
Deaths in UK in last 5 days: 426
Deaths in Spain in last 5 days: 12

Compare that to entry into Spain.

The government are also suggesting these rules could be applied to Germany and France at any time.
It's been suggested in various quarters this really has nothing to do with Covid. Rather gaming the final round of EU negotiations which start this week.
Governed by imbeciles.

I thought she was quite good. I don’t understand the criticism of the policy, people were quick to condemn the gvt at the start of the pandemic for a slow response so I’m not sure why they are now been criticised for rapid decisive action. I have a holiday booked and I booked it on the basis there was no certainty I would go, given the world we live in I can accept that and the inconvenience it may cause me but understand if it’s for the greater good then it’s a small sacrifice to make.
I definitely wouldn't condemn them for fast decisive action, although I would question the effectiveness of "self isolation" as a policy. I mean Cummings has already shown that self-isolation is not policable.

my mate was going on a stag weekend next week but forgot to take out insurance...

hes now medically unfit to travel and was gutted he couldnt get his money back...

anyway, theyve just given him the chance to cancel the holidy with a full refund, lucky bar steward...

Looks like it is ten days quarantine only now. When I saw that I thought "maybe that will save Petrio's holiday". Strange how stuff off here sticks in your head.

Ha! Thanks for thinking of me. Sadly, even a ten day quarantine isn't going to do it. Would leave us with invalid insurance, which isn't a risk we're willing to take. Possibly too much information, but we had to make a claim on travel insurance last year and my old man had a heart attack in France many years ago while we were there. If anything happened to me, my wife or our daughter, we'd be screwed. Also, don't fancy 10 days stuck indoors for the sake of a 10 day holiday. I'm not one for ignoring the rules, unfortunately.

We just live in hope that things can change quickly and the Spanish numbers may come down in the next couple of weeks.

I do have my own theory about our lovely government being difficult on purpose, to show how much the EU needs us but I'll leave it.

Very little however, was made of the fact that the Mayor of Leicester broke Lockdown on at least 5 occasions in order to visit his partner.

This. According to all the available data, the median incubation period for SARS-CoV-2 is 4 to 6 days but it can take up to 14 days. That, coupled with the well-established risk of asymptomatic transmission, is the reason for a 14-day isolation period.
I've just come back from Spain, spent 4 days on a probably quarter full golf resort near Malaga. We only left the resort to go back to the airport on Sunday. I wore mask where I needed to, I washed my hands constantly, I maintained social distancing where I was told to - all the good things we were told to do, we did. The flights both ways were fine, full on the way there and about 3/4 full on the way back. At Malaga airport there were extra checks on where you were going, temperature checks etc, however nothing at Leeds Bradford, apart from the usual passport control. They didn't even check the government form you had to fill in to say where you were going to be staying for the next 14 days.

I don't regret going, I had a great time, and have fully accepted that I now need to quarantine for 14 days. However, I felt far safer being there than I have here in the last 4 months. The people over there have accepted the controls for what they are, everything is cleaned, and cleaned again, and everyone is wearing a mask all the time except if you are eating or drinking (or playing golf), everyone is washing their hands, everyone is staying 2m away from each other.

I think sitting in a tin can for 3 hours, twice, is the biggest risk, and the reason you need to self isolate for a fortnight, but if I had been contacted by a tracer, telling me that I had been near someone in Morrisons who has now tested positive, I therefore need to go and get a test immediately. If that test comes back negative then great, I can crack on, despite me possibly being infectious as I'm still within the 14 day period - but I am allowed to go outside and about my business. Can anyone explain how its any different from returning from Spain? (Which when we travelled we were told was fine to go to, and were encouraged to, to help get the economy and tourist industry back on its feet by the way).

It does sound like they might be changing the advice to 10 day quarantine, with a test on day 8, which makes even more of a mockery of the advice.

Which one was that ? (just being nosey - can't stand golf ;))

Glad to see someone from the UK confirming what I've been saying all along that here in Spain we're doing things properly and rules are being complied with (rules note, not "we'll assume you'll use your common sense"

Was this stag do in Benidorm by any chance?

The government website states 14 days still, where have you seen 10 days mate?
Apparently on one of the Press sites, as something being floated, but not confirmed. I cant see how that helps much

We're due to fly out on 21st August (Seville and safe currently) so just keeping tabs for now. If we cant go or it's unsafe, that's fine. We knew the risks when we booked

Spent 11 days in the UK recently both on Teesside & In Sheffield & found the measures to be just as lax in the UK in person as I'd seen on Sky & the BBC before travelling back. I was down my local pub in Benalmadena watching the football on Sunday Afternoon, where the bar owner brought all of our drinks to the table & I had to put my mask back up just to go to the single male toilet. Whilst I'm 100's of km's away from the North East Hotspot in the Catalonia area, I certainly feel a lot safer here, given the way that the lockdown was much more strongly observed than by those crammed onto a beach in Bournemouth or partying the night away in Brixton & White City.

Absolutely gutted. We are due to fly out in just over two weeks time. I can't quarantine for two weeks on return, as I have to return to teaching about ten days after. Can't imagine Ryan Air refunding flights and not sure what the owner of our accommodation will say.
They won't refund. Only options are to change date - with change fee obviously - or claim on insurance if you have it. That's what I'm trying to do.

I was back in the UK at the weekend and was pleasantly surprised about the safety measures. I found it similar to Spain (except mask wearing in the streets) and even better in some respects. Giving your name and contact number when you go into a restaurant is a good idea. I've never been asked that in Spain

If only we could learn from Spain eh?

I don't have Sky TV, so I've missed out on how badly us English are doing in following good practice.

But, from what I've personally experienced in my local area and beyond, we ain't doing as bad as detractors would like us to believe.
