Who's Still Behind Carrick

I wonder what name BMW E34 normally posts under and why he feels he needs to change his username to post something so negative.

I suggest he reads the Aaran Ramsdale article posted by sparkins.

Yeah, you had a few idiots on the Internet chatting ****. Who cares? The real supporters have your back.

- Aaron Ramsdale

He moved Akpom into a deeper role which was absolute genius. Not only did the goals continue but he was also a constant outlet for the midfield - we lost so much more than goals. He stuck with Hackney and coached and nurtured him, allowing him to thrive and develop. I know you’ve said no disrespect but that’s exactly what that is to just dismiss.

Re Ferguson - bang average? Bryan Robson, Brian McClair, Denis Irwin, Gordan Strachan etc -

However he didn’t really kick on until Cantona and that was a chance meeting about another player that led to that transfer. Then the emergence of Giggs, Becks, Scholes, Butt and the Neville’s.

Of course none of this is luck but it’s similar to what you’re saying about Carrick.
It's not disrespecting Carrick at all.

You are completely missing my point. Carrick inherited a better squad in Oct 2022 than we have in Oct 2023. He took Wilders massively underperforming mish mash and quickly moulded a team which performed. That's on Carrick, great work hence no disrespect to what he's done in the past 11 months.

Chuba and Hackney were revelations, Giles moved to LB worked out pretty well. Again, that's Carrick.

Ferguson inherited an underperforming squad of players and took him 4? years to start to turn things around. Not bang average players, the team was doing absolutely f*ck all. Ferguson turned it around but took time (Ferguson signed Irwin btw).

Carrick needs to be given time. If we finish 17th this season, disappointing, but let's just stick with him. Let's look long term. Assess thing after 3 seasons.

I'm not dissing Carrick, implying he's a lucky manager. He landed in a fortunate position with certain players and made the best of things and more. Which to me points to what a good manager he is, and will hopefully improve. 👍

I will remain behind him but he needs to find his best 11 and fast. No matter what we say on here he is the only one that matters and this trial and error approach doesn't work

100%, good managers don't become bad overnight.

He improved the side last season and I see little reason why he can't this season. 3 years is the optimum cycle for most top managers. End of next season will likely be critical.

I am Hes been well and truely shafted by the club this summer. Hes not the problem the gross mismanagement from the top is. I honestly think relegation is more likely than not this season.

There's something about Carrick. I think we'll end up regretting it if we do sack him, not that I think we're remotely close to that yet.

We're desperate for a win or two mind. Hopefully they've been practising finishing during the break. He can't put it into the net for them.

We aren't losing games because of managerial failures, we are losing games because the players brought into the club over the summer, haven't hit the levels required of them yet. Hopefully that changes from Saturday.
Hopefully obrien and bangura can make a difference because the rest look like absolute dross. Silvera and Rogers look like league1 players i dont see them improving significantly this season

the form is awful and if he loses 4/5 in the next month or two I’d really worry. Stick with though 100 percent. Stupid post really praying on a manager to get the boot. Last season was brilliant the football was the best bar the Juninho robson years. The buzz of going to the match was back. You’d be disappointed waiting a week to watch the boro again. It almost felt a chore to go under warnock and pulis and co. I have little faith in our poor recruitment team and no confidence we will ever establish ourselves in the premier league again. But I think if carrick goes I’ll lose all faith of us seeing the premier league anytime soon. He needs to adapt and stop being afraid to drop players. But he has been screwed over in the window. Carrick is the best chance we have of getting back to the premier league.

Carrick is the least of our problems, but he can only work with what he has been given. You can't expect to get promoted with average players. It's up to Carrick to find a formula, but its been made extremely difficult for him.

Some of the football we played last season was breath-taking. Sheff United away was the stand out. We were absolutely fantastic that night. Norwich at home too, on the soggy pitch. I fear they would batter us now.

The difficulty is carrick wants us to play a highly technically style compared to most of the division. Unfortunately we dont have the players to play this way anymore and we dont have either the experience or knowhow to scrap our way out of danger. Carrick i think needs to be a bit more pragmatic maybe flood the midfield and shore up the defence until January and then gibson needs to get his hand on his pocket and get some decent players in otherwise we are down.

Can't write them off after 6 games. They have shown flashes, but are hugely inconsistent. Young players, need time.....🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Neck on line, but I reckon O'Brien will make a massive difference to that team all over the pitch.

Bangura looks like he can do a job - fast, athletic, likes a tackle - but again will need time to get up to speed in the Championship.

Can see Greenwood and McGree replacing Rogers and Silvera, maybe better off the bench as impact players?

We don't have as bad a team as some make out. Not good enough for promotion, but should comfortably be finishing top half.

Dieng
Smith
Fry
Lenihen
McNair
Howson
Crooks
O'Brien
Forss
McGree

That's ten very experienced championship level players, who have all played in sides challenging at the top of the league (whatever you may think of them as individuals).

You then have Hackney who I think has more than proven they're at the same level but with less experience. Jones isn't exactly inexperienced either now.

Some of them need to pull their fingers out more this season, but we do have proven quality (at this level) all over the pitch. Bar probably centre forward, which is perhaps the biggest issue.

The squad certainly isn't as good as we'd hoped (we were probably a bit spoilt last year) but it's also not as bad as some make out either. It's certainly a lot better than bottom 3. Or at least should be.

When he took over last year his most common team selection was (I think).

...................Steffen..................
Smith......Fry..........Lenihen.......Giles
.................Howson....Hackney........
Jones..........Akpom...............McGree
....................Forss....................

(and then changed to Crooks up top and Forss out wide).

As far as I can see Dieng can do what Steffen did.

So it's only Giles and Akpom missing. Big losses obviously, but the other 8 outfield players have absolutely proven they can play that style. And it's creating chances still. We're just missing them now. We were always poor defensively.

I do agree we need to try and shore it up a bit, but I don't think it's the technical style that's the problem as much as what we're doing without the ball. We're not pressing as well and not tracking runners as well.

This is exacerbated by the fact no-one can hold onto the ball as well as Chuba did. I'd go 433 with Hackney and O'Brien going to box to box. But I wouldn't change much more about the way we play.
