RIP Jack Charlton

The word legend is much overused but in Big Jack’s case absolutely deserved, as a player, manager and man, as a player he was the bedrock of a Leeds team that competed at the highest level for a decade and won the greatest honour in the game, as a manager he redefined the sporting culture of a nation and provided Boro fans with some of the best football we will ever see, and as a man he never lost touch with his roots, who he was and the importance of family.

RIP Big Man, the world is sadder for your passing but better for you being.

Big Jack had a reputation of having short arms and deep pockets. I can remember him being at a boxing night at the Wilton ICI club and being at the bar. When the barmaid told him the price, he tapped his pockets as if he was looking for his wallet and a guy next to him jump in and said 'I will get that Jack.' This happened on another two occasions over the night. :)

I am to young to have seen him manage the boro, but met him a few times and he always was friendly and funny and is also the only person I have ever seen that reduced my dad to a jibbering wreck.

Rip Big Jack, let's hope there is a big pond up there for you to fish forever.
