RIP Jack Charlton

he was fantastic with that 73/74 team the only season I attended every game. Although it spoiled me. Because I still think we will win every game at home. And we did back then.
Made a dream reality. Thanks
One player short of winning the first division - but we had one manage that had the power of 2 players on the pitch. he made me believe it. You were right Jack.

I met Big Jack once when I won a competition at school and he presented a signed football and introduced me to Souness, Hickton, Mills and co. A stand out day in my life.

He was a warm, friendly gentleman.

As others have said this is a desperately sad day.

RIP Mr Charlton, thanks for the golden memories.

Genuinely saddened to hear about the passing of the great man. Fantastic time following Boro with Jack in charge. What a season it was when we were promoted, especially as we’d been relegated the year before I was born. My dad told me all his own stories of following Boro, his favourite players Camsell and Mannion, and how the Boro would always let me down! We could never imagine being promoted, and then Big Jack arrived. The stuff of dreams and I’ll never forget him. Last time I saw him was a few years ago when there was a sponsored walk across the Transporter. I was going up the steps and met Jack and Alan Peacock (my boyhood hero) as they were coming down. Both stopped to talk and both were absolutely fantastic. Two heroes at once made me very happy as we chatted for around 15 minutes. There’s so much more I could say but I’m feeling emotional. For now, goodnight Jack and rest in peace. You’ll never be forgotten.

Ah an absolute Boro legend - we could and should have won the first division when big Jack took us up, even Jack said as much after regretting not signing another good striker. Still he left us with some brilliant memories from his four seasons here - get a win for the big man today Boro 👍🏻 RIP Jack

Its hard to find someone who didnt like Jack.

his Revered in Ireland, Idolised by the geordies, a hero to Leeds, we can all see what he means to us lot at Boro, and i'm sure Sheff wed fans feel the same. not many managers can equal that.

and then theres that World Cup team in 66 that united the nation.

Was it Paul McGrath who complained about something he did in training when he was RoI manager? Forget the player but someone said something and he walked up to them, pulled his world cup winner medal out of his pocket and said "when you have one of these, THEN you can argue with my methods."

I remember when he came back and desperately hope that he'd stay. He made sure we didnt go down. (not too far from the situation we're in at the moment).
But he went to Newcastle, and was treat like dirt by their idiot fans.

In my dad's eyes he was always Jack Charlton Boro manager, then Jack Charlton World Cup winner and finally Bobby's brother, always made me smile that he thought of him as Boro manager first, not world Cup winner.
I think of him in the same way even tough I was only young when he was Boro manager - but formative years. Met him once, great guy with time to chat. Sad news.

My two football teams, Boro and Ashington are both equally devastated today with the loss of Big Jack. The town in which I grew up and adore has lost a true legend, an old school tough man but with with the human touch and always had the time for a chat and never lost an ounce of his Ashington roots. A very sad day and both Ashington and Middlesbrough are mourning the loss of a man big in every way; his character, his fire and drive and his stubborn will to succeed which was only equalled by his stature as a man.
