Zack Steffen

Just saw the goals back on ITV.

He did nothing to try and stop the first and the dive for the second looks very awkward. Poor from him today.

I really don’t care, he’s there to keep the ball out of the net and he conceded 4. I just don’t get why he’s so special, I haven’t seen him do anything with his feet I don’t think Roberts could do.
He wasn’t to blame for any of those goals and it’s really simplistic to claim a role has one job and everything else is irrelevant this isn’t netball or quidditch where you have a specific role and can’t do anything else. Roberts is rubbish with his feet

Careful mate, they’ll lynch you unless you think he’s the messiah.

It’s in the name, goalkeeper. That’s his job. That’s why you have goalkeepers, to keep the ball out of the net. If he was doing that consistently, nobody would be mentioning his feet. They’d be praising him for doing his job. And from what I’ve seen of Roberts he’s just as good. I remember earlier on the season when he played against Barnsley he was launching balls on the half-volley and they were pinpoint.

Clearly Pep is clueless then

Aye, cause he’s been a regular for Pep hasn’t he?

It’s the Valdes thing, looked a world-beater with Puyol & Pique infront of him. When he had Gibson and Espinosa he looked afraid of a football.

The point was Pep knows that a GK needs to use his feet, not that Steffen played regularly.

You’d expect him to, he’s the goalkeeper 😂 Goalkicks, clearances etc.
And he still has a pass completion rate as high as the outfield players, despite playing a higher percentage of long passes. This was what I said in my first post.

Tricky communicating with you Scrug. I now see you have moved away from your first argument that its a myth Steffan is good with his feet.

Steffen had 100% completion rate yesterday simply because Huddersfield didn't press him and sat back so every pass was a 5 yard pass to Lenihan or McNair.

Today is not the day for talking about Steffen tbh, there was so much more to talk about and be critical of today than him and as most know, I am not his biggest fan. He did nowt wrong today that i could criticise him for, however,
McNair, Lenihan, Smith, Hackney, Howson, Archer, in particular, and despite his goal, Chuba to a lesser degree, were all way off the pace. We lost because collectively we could not defend second half, they could easily have had more in truth, you don’t concede 4 due to 1 man.
Spot on (y)

His pass completion rate is as good as our outfield players and he plays a higher percentage of longer passes. It isn't a myth, it's a fact
Morning young man.
Its the morning after the game before.
He does a decent job, but he cant be responsible for the other ten not turning up

Morning Roofie, no he can't. My viewpoint on yesterday was we weren't that bad, the stars aligned for warnock and we switched off at the start of the second half and payed a price that was way out of proportion to our performance. It happens sometimes.

We didn't **** the bed as some posters have suggested, it doesn't mean that the players have exceeded their abilities for months. It was just a day where luck was with Huddersfield.

I do think it will be difficult to catch and pass sheff utd now

Oh Yes luck was with them, must be very lucky to scored 4 what a ridiculous thing to say It was down to bad play **** all to do with luck.

He flapped weirdly at the first goal, which appeared to go straight through him, and the second he was down slow and late. You can't say he should have saved them, but you'd hope he'd have done better with both.
He just doesn't fill you with confidence. He doesn't command his box aerially and nor does he make saves 'he has no right to make'. Schwartzer did both of those things and that's why you forgave him the odd rick. He was a consistent points winner and when he left we were doomed. With Steffen there's just not enough in the plus column to justify that nervous feeling you get whenever a cross comes in or he dallies on the ball. He's not as woeful as Bettinelli or Lumley, but no way is he a 40k a week player.
I worry he's saving his next error up for the play offs...

I think this is a really good post on Steffen. Obviously Zach brings something to the team, such as fast ball play and distribution which I don't underestimate, I moaned about Lumley last year but in the latter stages when he got dropped I don't think it was a coincidence our results dropped as well. But you can't ignore the clangers from Zach as well and it can give other teams confidence to have a go, I know exactly what Warnock would have said to his team yesterday at half time and it was get shots on goal and test him, unfortunately our defence agreed with him. You can't drop him, because he is central to our style of play when it goes well, but you hope that some parts of his game he would become more confident if he stayed here.

No he will make more prior to the playoffs. I think he is ok but nothing special and after he goes back I would like to see Roberts given a chance or even Sol Brynn.

The first two H goals were very good shots - the issue for me with these 2 were players not defending enough all around the pitch.

The third one was a foul by Pearson and he pushed Smith over before the ball came in and Smith was unable to follow Pearson into the six yard area - possibly Stefan was a bit too much on his line which did not help.

The fourth goal was a bit of a fluke the way the ball deflected and the way it was hit into the ground for a shot and it ended up a pass. A top class keeper would have been disappointed with the attempted save, there was an opportunity to keep the ball out, not easy but some chance.

Half the team were at fault in some way for the four goals - Howson, McNair, Forss, Lenihan, Smith, Hackney all failed in blocks.
