Yuri Alberto

He looked like the absolute god of all football in the last game of the season in Robbos first promotion season at Tranmere. I'd never seen a player caress a football like that in English football previously. We just didn't have players like that back then or the players to compliment them. He'd be bog standard top half of championship type player now. The game has changed so much.
To clarify, back then if he'd have had today's English footballers around him he could have been an absolute star. Wrong time wrong place

Is the Brazilian league similar to the championship? I thought part of the new model was to find players from leagues that are similar in regards to physicality etc.

I believe Brazil league has never had a problem being physical. I mean half those lads grew up in desperate poverty and have a real perspective on how you have to fight for everything in life. We like to think of them all as dicky dancers and free spirits, but there are plenty of meatheads that'll break you in half if you try and dribble past them.

I think Corinthians are in a bit of trouble, one of their players Luan was assaulted by "fans" in a hotel, he was dragged out the front and beaten up because of bad performances.

And Stuani and Ramirez. And Amoriebeta, Ledesma, Marinelli.......

It's not been non-stop hits South Americans but there have been a lot of successes over the years.

As ever with Sheriff hard to say if his initial post saying only Juninho and Doriva was a bit tongue in cheek or not. Suspect it was.......
Yes quite possibly. Tbh I never even really warmed to Doriva, I know he did/could do an important job but generally speaking he wasn’t really my kind of player.

I know what you mean, although I did like Doriva and always thought he was pretty effective at his role.

The only real Doriva highlight I recall is that banger he scored vs. Bradford reserves on that mental night when Juninho returned and we played close to a full team!

You gotta add Rochemback to the successes surely, superb player on his day

Watching Crossed whipped over Alves' head and Tuncay 25 yards deeper helping Matty Bates and Arca out in midfield still gives me nightmares.

It was mind boggling stuff.

Rochemback was much like me at 5 a side, I play with inferior players so my excellent splitting passes through the lines are often wasted because my useless teammates aren’t intelligent enough to make the right run.

They’ll tell you it’s because I’m terrible.

Again opinions but Alves scored some exceptional goals for the Boro that where not just luck, he was not as bad as some would suggest, it just didnt work out in the manner where he become a legend but he was definately a good player!
That first half season he played pretty well. The following summer we sold Rochemback, his fellow country man, who probably helped him settle and the only creative option in midfield except Downing.

No wonder his form collapsed
