Youfibre new speeds & tarriffs

Whilst I agree, It's what you do with those devices and who is using them. People with kids will find their bandwidth rapidly eaten up.

I had a huge smart home network and devices work but downloading an 80gb call of duty patch or movie on 76mb takes 2 hours 20 minutes, on 1gb it's 10 minutes.

Upload is usually hobbled too, at 15-20mb.

The main thing is though that youfibre and similar networks are usually the same price or less than openreach costs for 76mb

Yeah agree, it does a job but it's not great.
We literally have this conversation every time there's a post like this.

Not everybody has this as an offer and even Virgin isn't an option for loads of people. The point I'm making is that people will think their problems are related to speeds when in lots of cases that's not the issue. It's understandable they think that way, especially if they are not tech savvy.

Most people are over gunned for their needs. The setup that Legz describes is really basic and needs nowhere near that level but it's a great option for sure given the price and speeds offered.

No problem in people having better speeds than needed, especially for future proofing, but speed isn't everything when the hardware is rubbish (reference to those on Virgin mainly) .

I thought I was pretty clear, but if not: If this is available to you, it's a no brainier. Buy it. I certainly would.

If not then there are other options that will be perfectly good for most people.

I hate the feature crippled eero router with youfibre allthough it works fine with a standard setup i couldn’t get away with the lack of configuration options and the crappy mobile app so i use my own pfsense router. I am interested to see what router they supply with the new multi gigabit service it will have to be something really high end which hopefully means its less likely to be so locked down
I wonder if it's this one

Actually looks like that's what they give you if you have voice

I’m on their waiting list. TS5 area but not available here yet.

Can’t wait until I can dump Virgin.
I'm exactly the same as you, Virgin in Acklam is atrocious. I've been meaning to ring and complain to at least get the bill down until either Youfibre or Grain are available but I hate the hassle of having to sit on hold and then barter with them

I'm still waiting for Youfibre to be installed in the area of Thornaby I live in.I can't wait to bin Virginmedia,Youfibre approximately 1/2 the price!

I’ve had their services for around 20 years in all of the places I’ve lived. In recent years it’s gone massively downhill.

I work a lot from Home and have to log into work systems via a VPN. At least once a month they seem to strangle the VPN connection meaning I can’t work so I end up having to go into the office last minute. That’s on top of the usual outages. Virgin won’t hold their hands up to it. When it happens 30% of our work population who are also Virgin have the exact same issue.

I have the BB and the basic tv package and nearly paying the same now as I was 2 years ago when I had everything.

My tv box hardly works now either. Missing picture with sound or vice versa but I mainly use Netflix etc and the firesticks these days. Another thing I’ve been meaning to contact them about. I’ll have to get around to it.

I tried making a complaint over the phone with them years ago and they point blank refused to log it and said I had to tweet them. Which I did at the time and tbf, they sorted my issue out. I don’t have Twitter these days though as many won’t do. Their services and customer service is appalling.

If anyone is signing up to youfibre and hasn't yet had an install, drop me a PM as if you get referred by an existing user you get 2 months free on fop of the new customer offers 🍻

They've been a revelation for us compares to other ISP's although I'm sure some people will have issues.

my initial 18month contract was up last month. got couple of texts and an email warning me it was going up from 28 to 57 quid. for the 1gb package(with wifi net). anyway i forgot to chase them up and forgot about it. they phoned me up and said its to late to for you now the 1st 57 payment will come out. he did a bit of deal tinkering and said best i can do for you is 28.99 a month. what a change that is from virgin, who will happily let you run the big out of contract prices and then unwilling to give you a new deal similar to the one they give you when first joining. for me youfibre have actually cut their price with inflation going through the roof i'm only paying 99p more for the second contract. love them.

edit it was 25 a month changed to 29.99.

The router on the faster speeds is Asus Pro ET-12.
Thats excellent news Asus make excellent highly configurable routers their OS is far superior to that on the Eero. Ive installed the openwrt open source operating system on asus routers before and that works a treat as well

I've just rang them to upgrade and then sacked it off originally

So the price is £49.99
If you want youmesh that is now youmesh pro with the new router so one extra node is £14.99month son £65 a month
Then static IP is £5 so £70 a month.

As I have credits atm and youmesh isn't contractual I've taken it out so I can test the new router and see if I need an extra point given that my office is cabled up to the lounge with cat7 so if it has better range I can get hopefully away without the youmesh and if not I'll buy one but that is next year's problem.

Now need a reasonable priced 2.5gb switch

I think coverage should be fine with just the router. I rang up an ordered the 2gb service today. Ive got a load of networking kit which i will probably flog on now, might pay towards another node if needed

Did you get straight through? I had to ring about 500 times as kept cutting me off as it connected

Still waiting for it to be available in my area, TS20. About 100 metres down from me have it!
Are you able to preorder it? If you want an extra 2 months free give me a shout 👌🏻 can be agonising waiting but presume you were able to get virgin or something before? We could only get 76mb openreach and it was vile

You can usually email them your postcode and they'll tell you the expected install date - for me they came about 2 months early.

Rang this afternoon straight through no problems at all
You had it installed yet? I was due Monday but they rang me today and asked if they can do first thing tomorrow. I'm hoping it doesn't have daft ssid password requirements so most devices transfer over but we will see!

20th Saturday installation. Passwords shouldbe fine on an asus box. Funny enough i changed the name of my youfibre network when it was first installed back to the name of my virgin ssd and password just for continuity

Anything over 80mb is unnecessary for the vast majority of households
It really isn't.

My old openreach connection had 18mb upload speed and my cloud security cameras were using 16mb 24/7 which impacted performance.

As for download speed, an 80gb game update or movie download on 80mb connection takes 2 hours 13 minutes. Call of duty game brings out patches every few weeks of that size. Most PlayStation of Xbox games in digital format will be 40+gb minimum.

On a 1gb that download takes 10 minutes 40 seconds or 2gb 5 minutes 20 seconds.

Youfibre do 1gb for £27.99 now, how much is a 80mb connection? Generally about the same. So where is the argument for it?

Most people can survive on 80mb; we did it for 4 years after moving to Ingleby. But a Netflix stream uses about 10-20mb so a families internet can't saturated quickly. Does anyone "need" 1-2gb connections? Probably not. But when you can have it for the same or less than 80mb, why wouldn't you?

I can network with my mates on fibre and we can transfer game and movie files at insane speeds and I can readily watch media off my server when I'm away from home or travelling.

Even the vast majority of households though will experience times where they're wanting to download something and don't want to wait for it - be it downloading Netflix/prime etc for offline viewing, watching streamed TV, downloading games or updates etc etc, the idea that we should be happy with 10 year old internet standards is definitely for the birds. 80mb broadband should be a free product at this stage. We've lagged behind other countries for years so it's great to finally catch up.

Oh, and I believe sky aren't doing any more satellite dishes as part of their strategy; so any sky q boxes will add to the usage.

If you can't get these connections it's not the end of the world but if you can it's a no brainer. Do the maths on the slower packages and it doesn't usually stack up.

i was looking at the 2GB but the sky box and xboxes are limited to 1GB network ports. plus £90 for a decent 2.5GB switch.

i think i have 4 months left on the initial 18 so hopefully the price will go down after that when i call them
