Yorkshire bitter ranked (my top five)

You can get a few of the above in London e.g. Black Sheep, TT Landlord (Maddona's favourite pint, supposedly), but drinking nearer to the brewery is more appealing. In supermarkets it's always worth looking at the small print on generic brand bottles, it usually tells you the brewery.

I was weaned on Sam Smith’s bitter (The Coble in Redcar) and still have a soft spot for it, as long as it’s the oak casked, hand pulled stuff. They also had Theakstons best bitter in my halls when I first went to university. It was 21p a pint. Again, I still love a pint of that. I’m partial to a Riggwelter and XB too.
21p/pint?
what year was this? 1941? [laughing smiley face with tears 'n that]

Not when PBR or Bud Light is still in existence it isn't.

I set myself a task of drinking a beer from every state in the US, which is surprisingly harder than it sounds, even when you live there. I've had some bad stuff, but Rhode Island's Narragansett lager has got to be the worst thing I had, even made a Budweiser taste reasonable.
Never understand why Americans drink Bud (or especially Bud Lite) when there are so many amazing craft beers to choose from.

PBR/Miller High Life etc are different, it's definitely a cultural/lifestyle choice!

There are a lot of good beers - bitters and pale ales etc from Kirkstall Brewery in Leeds that are highly recommended! Probably not widely available on Teesside but growing in Yorkshire!

When is a bitter not a bitter, when it is a dark ale. Beers like Old Peculiar, Riggwelter, as good as they are, are not bitters, people are changing the goalposts.

TOP 5 YORKSHIRE BITTERS (for me) no doubt lots haven’t tasted mind.

1. Barnsley Bitter
2. Theakstons Best
3. Landlord
4. Hearty
5. Boltmaker

Oh, anyone suggesting John Smiths or Sam Smith need to visit their GP’s urgently, their taste buds have gone on strike drinking that chemically induced liquid poison

Before it shut my old local ( owned) by Humphrey NOT the brewery sold sammy smiths from the Wood. Nothing chemical about that. 8 pints and “ bing” bright as a button in the morning. John Smiths is another story.

Many of those mentioned are not bitters , including the OP no1 which is a pale
Theres been some good bitters on recently at the chapel which also had a proper oak cask OP , which i know isnt a bitter either 😄

That's a great challenge by the way.
Michelob ultra is rats p155 too.

But again, they have some great ones also

Yeah I've done about 38 of the 50, but it's hard.

Most states are so proud of their own breweries that it's difficult to get out of state brews (there's probably a tax angle too), and so you come across some states multiple times whereas others are more difficult, even more so now I'm back in the UK.
