York City friendly

Don't forget lads- friendlies are for finding out what you CAN'T do as well as what you CAN do. The result is unimportant (although I want my beloved Boro to win every game 25-0).A friendly is for finding out who can, tackle, shoot, mark, run, head, kick, position themselves, who has the vision, attitude, think, pass, control, cope under pressure, teamwork, jelling, and fitness. And it is about who cannot or does not have these qualities and what is needed to bring him up to standard. It is also a test for the manager and coaching staff to try out tactics and who is capable or not of carrying out instructions. Better to find out now than at Fulham.

There was good news and bad news.

The good news:
1. Martin Payero was asleep in Japan
2. Muniz was watching in Rio and Leo convinced him we definitely play in Red

The bad news:
1. Is that if we keep that level of performance up we will finally get out of the wretched Championship

York have had a great pre-season tbf, we did as well as the Jawdees, Scumderland scraped a lucky draw by all accounts. On a positive note, we know we are up there with England on penalties.

That may well be true Trug, but that was a carbon copy performance of many from January onwards.
What exactly is it the coaching staff are trying to achieve, because i for one just cant see it.

Best we can hope for is a solid mid table championship side on that performance. It’s happening again 😂
Why are you basing anything on a pre-season game with quite a few of our best players missing and some others being their first game this pre-season?

Lets have a little perspective eh?

It was always going to be difficult to improve both the quality AND quantity of players in one off season. Were simply not set up to achieve that short term.

I think we'll have the required quantity by the time the window closes but not convinced the quality will improve much on last season.

I have long held that when all goes smoothly in pre-season and we win all the games our season turns to poo. If we have a bit of a struggle in pre-season then we seem to fair much better when the real stuff starts. Given that theory and based on tonight's showing I think we should have an absolute blinder.;)

It was a pre-season game, but it doesn't bode well for the season.

The starting line up was a strange choice.

Let's hope we sign the two South Americans

Warnock basically confirmed in the post-match that he recognised the formation wasn't working but was sticking with it anyway to see what would happen if it was used against a back 4.

Watmore and Tavernier were rested to avoid injury.
