Yet more reports of MLS interest in Matt Crooks

Rogers and Crooks made 12 of our league goals and scored another 5. They made more than Engel, Greenwood, Barlaser, Jones, Forss and Hackney combined. And we’ve shifted both of them, one AFTER our opportunity to replace him has just ended.

To me it’s madness. Do you want the money in the bank or the stuff happening on the pitch? People seem more interested in accountancy now. Crooks should be in our 18 week in, week out, until he is replaced by a better player.

I’m sure in his interview when he joined us he said something along the lines of that he’d like to come to the States. So this is not so surprising

I think you're underestimating how good Hoppe might have looked in training, Viv.

If I'm honest, I get a little buzz of excitement when we sell a player. Don't ask me why, I can't explain it.

Must be a case of Crooks fancying a move too, rather than Boro saying " we've accepted an offer, pack your bags, you're sold".

And must be a good deal for all parties......although I'm gutted he's leaving.

By crying myself to sleep tonight, tears soaking my Boro duvet 😭😭😭

Some of he responses make me laugh. Crooks has been an excellent servant to the club, who was signed for a relatively small fee. While he is limited as a footballer in comparison to where we want to get to, he always gave everything, never caused any bother and played for a long period last season carrying an injury. I have absolutely no doubt that he has gone to the club and told them that this is an opportunity he really wants to pursue, and we have agreed to it taking all of the previous good character into account. Sometimes money and club circumstances are put to one side to do the right thing by someone who is clearly a top human being.

It sounds like Crooks is wanting the move, according to what Carrick said in the presser. Can't imagine he would kick up a fuss but it's more of an opportunity than say... a move back to Rotherham in the summer, so who knows.

He's been a good servant to the club, but he's not a nailed on starter, and we might be getting more from an MLS club than we think we could get from another EFL club in a few months time.

I just hope we get to say a thank you and goodbye before he leave. Crooks is one of those players you don't get too often and the majority of fans really appreciate him. We've seen similar players leave without the opportunity to do the same (Friend, Leadbitter etc).

Crooks requested the move

Similar to my comment on the Howson thread, wouldn't be adverse to him staying, but after the January window the more and more he plays, it would be a reflection on poor recruitment.

His style doesn't suit one of the midfield two roles. And when he plays as either a 10, or a striker, its very much the squarest of square pegs, in a round hole.

The fact that he has made it work at times is a testament to his character. Good luck to the lad.
