Yet another mass shooting - grim

It’s absolutely mental. When I was a kid I was in awe of how ‘cool’ America was and wanted to live there. You couldn’t pay me to live there now.

A post I saw earlier on Twitter shows how bad it is.

It wouldn't be a legal act, you can forget about that. Trump had the trial run with his attempt at overthrowing democracy, and his supporters have probably learnt from their mistake, so you know which ever way it comes., It will happen cleanly and quickly.

What Trump and his supporters tried to do, had (and has) absolutely nothing to do with the US military.

Also, though shocking, it was hardly surprising. Trump and his acolytes had been more or less advertising the fact that they wouldn't accept the results if they lost, and various people had predicted he would try to overturn the election results if they went against him.

The US military on the other hand has never become involved in US politics, shows precisely zero inclination towards doing so and no one (apart from you, as far as I can tell) is even vaguely suggesting that they will do so.

Depressing stuff as always. I am heading to Austin for work on Sunday, coming on the back of 2 horrific incidents. Last year I went too and it was a week after the elementary school shooting in Uvalde. Just an endless pattern of slaughter. Really praying on my mind this year.

I always thought after i saw bowling for columbine that the concept of gun ownership in the states would start to die out

It made yanks go out and buy more guns, they are one petrified society , they litterally sleep with guns under their pillows

A bit unfair to say that all Americans are gun loving nutters. I know a fair few Americans, and one of my best friends is a California lass who lives in Nevada now, and she hates guns and she would never have one in the house.

Funnily enough Mrs Ingbar has a good friend in Grass Valley, Nevada and she hates the whole MAGA right wing resurgence so much she has considered moving back to the UK again.

From the outside looking in it seems to me to be a deeply divided nation.

Yeah. Bev wants to move to Canada, but she can't afford to do that right now.

After calls for the AR-15 to be banned… they sold more AR-15 than ever infact it was sold out.

And this stat from a recent poll says it all

About one in 20 US adults – roughly 16 million Americans – own at least one AR-15-style rifle, according to polling from Ipsos

From cbs regarding gun sales from dec 2022 spiking after a mass shooting

Brownells, the world's largest firearms supplier, says it recently sold more than three-and-a-half years worth of AR-15 magazines in three days

That's tosh. 70% of American adults don't own a gun.

Just got back from Austin. An oasis in gun-slingin' Texas territory. At the car rental don't make the mistake I made where they upsold me a $14.99 daily fee for toll roads - there are very few toll roads and those that are just cost a dollar or two!!

Other than that I can say there are plenty of Americans who agree the gun issue is absurd, just like we do.

The only solution, which sadly won't happen, is for the American political system to change in such a way that the NRA ceases to fund the Republicans. Only then can politicians change ownership laws.

Statistically incorrect. There are more private guns in America then there are people
Both can be correct - yes, there are more guns than people in America, but gun owners usually have a number of weapons.

That said, even 30% of adults owning guns is a crazy statistic given the US obsession with mass murder and killing children.
