Yay or Nay time..... SG-Reenwood?

He was offered a 5 yr deal by Leeds when they were in the Premier League. He will be on a big wage.
I dont think he signed it though?

The fact a deal is agreed with Leeds suggests that his salary won't be too much of an issue.

Right now it's a no brainer to sign him, but still lots of the season left.

For what its worth, I'm very good friends with a Mackem in Murton, who is good friends with Sam's dad.

He tells me its a done deal that didn't get done in the summer.

I wondered if that might be the case. Like that Lewis Hall to Newcastle

No, he *might* be on a big wage. And bear in mind "big" is subjective and relative.

If there is no chance of him coming here what was the point of the agreement?

I know I will get pelters, but I prefer him to McGree playing in that role out left.
I'm honestly not knocking McGree, but I think Greenwood will go on to be the better player and be more valuable.

4-year deal he signed and as someone said above, he'd made less than 10 first team appearances than then. I don't think it will be insurmountable for us and yeah, why would we agree an option to buy if we had no intention of activating it?

It is a NAY - and it will be in the summer also I would say because of the wage difference which will be a total chasm. The signing price agreed is not really relevant - the wage is everything or nothing.
So whats the point in him coming if hes completely unaffordable to sign. We are just putting him in the shop window and blocking the development of one of our own players

Looks like a decrease in wages following relegation when he agreed his new deal last year
If true, Leeds were a bit mental giving him a 4 or 5 year contract on 18k/week when he hadn't really done much for them, apart from a few promising appearances. No wonder he snapped their hands off. I doubt he'd sign a contract with Boro for much less if at all than the 18k he is on at Leeds (granted he is on a relegation clause at the moment). Basically, we would probably have to go up to sign him permanently.
I wonder if he signed for us, so he could live at home, with his income dropping 50%!!!

Unless it remains at 9k. Sometimes they dont automatically return to the original wage

Lots of 'ifs and buts' on this one

Still a big fcuking YAYYYYYYYY though ;)

What if we go up? What if he takes a pay cut? Why put the clause in if we have no interest in signing him? I think your being a bit negative here to be honest.

Also, someone bought for £1.5m will not be on that much. I think you are looking at it as if he was an established player when Leeds signed him. He wasn't.

In current terms .. he's a 6 - 18k player ..
If he's got eight league goals / no injuries/ and some assists.. by March . he's worth the ' gamble '
Get above that pay .. And you'd get a whole load of requests in and have to re-look at the salary structure.

If we go up hes nowhere near good enough for the premier league we move on
