Would you consider moving to an Independent Scotland?

Would you move to an Independent Scotland?

Its ok for us English to "wonder" about an Independent Ireland, Scotland and Wales when Westminster and this "Brexit" mess is in so much turmoil. Lets sort out our own mess before we start to dictate others future - harking back to the days of Imperial power......

What nonsense. If it was a UK wide vote, Scotland would be gone.

Where is the ENGLISH PARLIAMENT?

Where is the Free ENGLISH university places?

Where is the Free ENGLISH prescriptions?

The English have had opportunities to vote for these but voted against them. - so don't blame the Scots

Dont be daft. Who voted paying for prescriptions and universities??

Loads of people voted for university tuition fees. Those who voted for Blair and Cameron. There was a chance to get rid of them by voting corbyn, but people opted against it.

Not going to happen. Most intelligent Scots know that when push comes to shove :-

No currency
Military shipbuilding would be moved to UK
No more subsidies, therefore free further education ends and free prescriptions plus many more things.
Regiments disbanded.
Balmoral ?
It would be a disaster and there.is zero hope of the EU letting them join. Except perpahs to **** the rest of the UK off.

Why no currency? The pound is not Englands alone.

Why would military shipbuilding be moved and Regiments be disbanded? There may be a common defence policy. That would certainly be sensible and satisfy both E&W and Scotlands Nato responsibilities. And Scotland has always provided disproportionately more of its population to the armed forces, so it would actually benefit E&W from that perspective.

Balmoral? The Queen is Head Of State in Canada, Australia etc. Absolutely no problem with her having a residence in Scotland as HoS or even not.

The EU have already said Scotland would be very welcome back in.

Stop talking a load of old sense Lefty, it may be informative but not nearly as entertaining as other posts such as, and this made me giggle - People didn't vote for Corbyn because he was an anti-semite and a tramp. Now that is some top quality message board posting Lefty - You must do much better.

Nail on head.

I am sick of people in this country bleating on about what the Scots get.

They want it so they voted for it.

If you want it then vote for it.

How do you propose the North of England vote for our version of the Barnett Formula? Successive governments have failed our region, not just the current mob.

Some of the comments here are ludicrous. If Scotland want independence and are willing to accept and deal with the consequences then good luck to them, personally I would never vote in favourite of such a fundamental change when the party pushing it are a bunch of charlatans like the SNP. Just because the SNP get a free run from the mainstream media doesn’t mean they are doing a good job, their domestic record is appalling and what they have done to their education services is diabolical.

The naval and military shipbuilding could NOT stay in Scotland for Security Clearance purposes. Lads in NI found out there cost that when they applied for Irish dual citizenship that they became excluded from working on military projects. Huge amount of backpeddling going on right now.

Do we therefore no longer call it the British Pound, or the British Armed forces.?

Dont get me wrong, I would happily vote for Scottish independence.

bait alert

Seems I am a winner on this thread, I was born in Edinburgh to Scottish parents, I am Scottish, I even like to see scotland trounce england at football, or at least I think I do, it's been such a long time, I can't quite remember how it feels.

I dont think many of your compatriots will be rushing to join you fella.
Most Scots I know are quite content living in England.

I didn't used to think I'd see Scotland secede from the Union, but now I think it will happen. I'm a Scot, I live in Edinburgh now but I have lived in North Yorks and the US too. This Scotland is different, it's more outgoing, more welcoming, more confident now.

England and its culture seem to have been subverted by this nirvanha of multi culturalism. Offering something for everyone seems to erode the basis of English culture. It's a squabble, there's no English confidence anymore and everyone seems paranoid of offending anybody, somebody or everybody else.

Lovely place , fantastic in the sunshine, but for six months of the year I can imagine it’s pretty cold and dull and for that reason im out!

It would all depend on the future relationship. If there was a common defence policy then why not? It is the Royal Navy, not the UK navy or the English navy.

As for what we will all be called, well, don't forget the separate country of Wales was conquered by England in the late 13th Century and the Laws in Wales Acts 1535 and 1542 fully incorporated Wales into the Kingdom of England. When Elizabeth died without an heir in 1603 England begged James VI of Scotland to also become King of England in a personal union. In 1706/07 the Acts of Union formally joined the two nations into the Kingdom of Great Britain, with a common Parliament and a common currency but separate legal systems. The currency, Parliament, armed forces and other assets and liabilities are jointly owned. It was a partnership of equals that over time, due to population and the concentration of power has become dominated so much by England that this is overlooked. So if this Union is dissolved assets and liabilities will have to be divided, but Scotland may well be just as entitled to use the pound.

We became the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland in 1801 when the Parliaments of Great Britain and Ireland passed an Act of Union. Once Southern Ireland became independent in the first half of the 20th Century we became the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

So, if Scotland goes Independent would we still be able to use Great Britain? If Northern Ireland go too, can we even call ourselves a United Kingdom? Wales might complain about not being mentioned anywhere in the name as in pre 1707 times but that technically might be the result, we just become England.

I wonder if this would mean we will lose our seat on the UN Security Council and the G7? Isn't Brexit great?
